compared to some of the other forums i frequent, no-one here talks about religion or politics. either y'all are really polite and avoid the possible conflagaration when discussing such topics, or simply don't care. i'm 99.998% certain it's the former, not the latter.
so...anyone wanna scrap? I'M KIDDING. i like this forum just the way it is. this was just an observation. a bit odd, that's all. and refreshing. now go on with your bad selves.

Wherein some folks are passionate about politics and religion others are passionate about cats. I think for the most part, this forum is full of cat lovers. Do you have a pet? If so, put a pic up in the pets section! Then look out for the "So Cute" coming at you in sparklees!

HMPH!! Hardly. Some of us like bunnies. **grumble**
I posted about this site elsewhere saying the same thing. I have never seen a flame war in here and I've never even been slightly annoyed with anyone that I can ever recall. I've always wondered how some folks managed to get banned (spamming, maybe??? Cat-hating dog owners?)
Great group of people and they always make you feel welcome (particularly the cat people).

Those "Sleeps with Dogs" tees are cool, Tea... But couldn't that be taken the wrong way?
You mean if I google "sleeps with dogs" it might not direct me straight to this t-shirt site?

Ronin - I dont know what it is here, we have had a few discussions about politics, but really they suck, I think it's like we decided that we all know where we stand and theres just funner things to talk about, simple as that. I think also we all care about art/design and sharing knowledge (the true purpose of a forum) more than telling eachother our own biased opinions....well thats my biased opinion anyways.

I think it all has to do with the green color scheme we have around here. Color therapy? Plus it reminds me of whirled peas. ;)
Yes, like the pastel pink or blue walls they have in the psych ward?
Absolutely Ned...only the brave soul would wear one. At least one with a snappy comeback!
They have hats too that were awesome. Their web site (http://www.barkology.com/) didn't have any direct sales though and a t-shirt at the store I spotted them at was $30 and too small. Dang. They look better in the flesh, er cotton, than the site shows.

Camarota's right. There have been a few political discussions on here, but for the most part, they end up just withering away. I think most of us just realize that we don't want to jeopardize the good thing we have going on here by getting all angry about politics. Even the ones we've had about politics remain by and large polite.
It no accident the forum is the way it is. The very first post ever posted in this forum by Allen Harkleroad said in essence "Everybody is welcome but be nice or we will boot your ass out of here". We've followed that philosophy ever since. We've had some real anal orifices in here over the years but they don't usually last very long. Early on most jerks and trolls figured out they couldn't get a foothold in here and that the ever popular "just my opinion" didn't really wash around here. I'm sure that if there's a troll forum, somewhere in it is a post saying to not even bother with the GDF. We're not all angels by any means, we are fairly passionate people and most of us have gone off a time or two. But those instances were virtually always followed by an apology. Overall our core members (and there have been several different sets) are a pretty nice bunch of people and nice people attract other nice people.
I've been accused of quashing free speech, being on a power trip, being on a personal vendetta and just being a plain old ass-hole LOL. In truth though 99% of the moderating we do in here is dealing with spammers and free work seekers. Most of the time when a thread gets hot for whatever reason our regular members have already dealt with it, it's really rare that we have to get involved officially. http://home.comcast.net/~rnick9/koolsmiley.gif

Don't get me started Ned, I'm much too polite! :p
Heh heh, here is one of my favorites. This guy was well educated, spoke well and was apparently successful, but he was a total dick. He grandly proclaimed that every insulting thing he said was "The Truth" and anyone who disagreed with him was an idiot. He was in arguments all over the forum. After we finally got tired of his crap and booted him he signed up again and posted this, we all got a pretty good laugh over it. http://home.comcast.net/~rnick9/koolsmiley.gif
Hello,
I would like to say I’m new here but that isn’t the truth.
You see, I was banned yesterday from this very forum for utilizing the very intent of the forum’s purpose, which is to share views, opinions, comments, critiques and technical aspects based on the industry of Graphic Design. More to the point, I was pointed out as being ignorant. I returned the sediment with more style and refrain then all the moderators put together could have thought up on a good day. Their obvious way of dealing with it was to shut the binary door.
I offered my view points in a very concise and professional manner. I didn’t always agree with everyone’s opinions or viewpoints. I didn’t always agree with the quality of everyone’s work and was not fearful to express my honesty about this. And I took great efforts to explain my opinions and view points as well as offer plenty of forward thinking critique and support to the community.
I just thought I’d let new comers to this forum know what they’re getting into before they submit their first post. There are a handful of unofficial hidden rules that I think you should be aware of:
1.)All opinions and view points are welcome. True. That is if you agree with the greater good of the Moderators. Be careful to impose an opposite viewpoint. You may be charged with leading ignorance or being a pompous a-whole. You may be subjected to major assumptions that you’re some where in an Ivory Tower because you may be successful at what you do and have worked hard for it or that your opinions are uneducated and misdirected.
2.)You are among your peers. True. That is if your post count is some where in the upper 1000’s. If not, you face a lot of onset judgment and scrutiny unless you like to polish people’s knobs and stroke insecure egos. You may want to take a course in comedy while you’re at it. God knows designers serious and passionate about their art need not apply here.
3.)This Forum is good for your health. True. Comedy has been shown in countless studies to improve health by 10-fold.
So this final message goes out to all the Moderators and their supporters:

No need to show me the door, I’ll let myself out this time.

thanks for chiming in, guys. i was just making an observation, and really didn't think said observation would generate so many responses.
like most people, i was taught that discussing R&L was a quick gateway to offense, so in polite company, refrain from doing so.
i know this forum is about graphic design. but the other forums i visit have all kindsa yahoos gobbing off about God knows what. GDF is pretty much lacking of such things, and i think that's pretty neat. a bit of a shock, but neat. it speaks of our focus here, and our common respect for one another.
if i could have one wish right now, i'd like to have a cook-out, and hand you all a plate of ribs and a cold beer. i really do think food is the key to world peace. if you can sit down and break bread with someone, you'd think twice about shooting him (or her).
cheers, guys.

Haha, I just had to laugh a little about your comment on our "focus" ronin. I've seen some threads go in crazy directions, getting wayyyy off topic, back on and then it gets so far off track you cant find your way back.

I'm a very polite person, I sometimes forget my P's and Q's, but don't lose my temper. And I only swear when I'm around my mates (which is relatively light compared to other people! :o)
I'm also glad that it looks like this forum doesn't get into heated arguments. I've noticed that as the bigger forums grow, the bigger the fights and disagreements get as well.
Looks like us design-orientated folk are alright!

LOL buda, I think Sharmi is way to "personified" for my dinner table... That bunny has too much personality to qualify as a meal...
- she goes in a box
- she takes naps
- she likes pancakes
- she has a name, mine were all bunny, bunny, bunny...and then categorized as either "fit for dinner" or "not fit for dinner".
I think I'd have some serious indigestion if I ate her.

Did I mention that she has 3 tiny dreads forming on her face. She thinks no one notices because they're among her whiskers. But I'm her mummy and I notice these things!
Sama, you also can't eat "people" that wearing cool fake-chrome aviator glasses on their heads. Especially when they look as smooth as this!
