I'm taking my girlfriend away for a weekend in old Londinium and have narrowed down the night's accomodation to one of two places... (well, i've made my choice already really) but which would YOU choose?

classic opulence:

or something slightly different...?

Classic.

(Maybe this should be made into a "poll thread"...)

sorry, the bottom choice isn't a cruise. it's a cruise ship that's 'permanently' docked. so it's just like a floating hotel really...

and I'll keep the choice secret for now... as she might be watching ;) :D

Tempting, honestly--but I couldn't choose. And I'm booked this weekend. Also, I'm a happily married guy. Still, I'm very flattered you asked.

(Now maybe if you posted some girlfriend photos...)

Yes Broacher, the girlfriend pics would help. I could change my mind again and possibly choose one of DesignStudio's shack get-aways.:D

I would go for the classic.

Mostly because I'd rather be thrown out on the sidewalk than thrown overboard once they figured out my cheque bounced.

Good point. Better book a ground floor suite.

I was gonna pick the cruise, but since it's just a boat and no cruise, I'd be wishing I was cruising the whole time I was on the damn thing so I pick the classic opulence option.

I think we have a clear winner here!

That's the next choice question:

clear winner vs. clean weiner

those two aren't mutually exclusive though!

I prefer them both to be clean however :D

You've got one lucky girlfriend, Capt'n. Without a doubt, I chose the old Victorian place, over the cruise ship, for one night. A cruise would be nice, if it was ocean-going, but not for a one-night stay. We have a docked cruise ship like that in Key West, which is used as a big Casino. That mansion looks gorgeous, especially with the beautiful staircase. It reminds me of shots of the condo villa which my mother and step-father are looking into buying in China. A place like that, but modern with marble floors and the works, only costs about a million renminbi, which is like $150,000 Canadian bucks. That's the price of a tiny little shack in Canada!

Maybe in Kanata... but in my part of the frozen north that could get you a decent 3 bedroom, without too much difficulty. Heck, in Manitoba, it could get you a palace. Mind you, it costs that much to heat the place for a year.

$150,000 here will get you a 27sqm 1 bedroom apartment (http://www.allrealestate.co.nz/cgi-bin/rsearch?a=o&id=103667385&f=30&p=10&t=res&ty=&fmt=&header=&c=43811069&s=nzni&snf=rbs&tm=1172710096) apparently.

But that's unfair I guess coz the NZ dollar isn't as strong as other countries.

here in SF, $150k literally won't buy you anything. You can't even buy a studio condo or efficiency with that. You could consider buying a floating home or houseboat in the bay maybe with that much, but you still have to pay about a grand per month for docking. That would pay your rent on a decent apartment for 5-6 years though.
