Hey, folks. I've received a Corel Draw file today (".cdr", in case I don't know what I'm talking about), but I don't have Corel Draw. Is there a way to make it so that I can open it in Adobe software, like Illustrator?

Thanks in advance, and please respond soon. I'm in somewhat of a hurry with it.

Hmm, not sure, maybe Graphic Converter (http://www.graphic-converter.net/index.htm) would open it and let you convert it to something Adobe would recognize? I couldn't find anything on their site that shows a complete list of supported formats, but it seems like .cdr would be one of them.

I tried out Graphic Converter. I'm afraid it doesn't work.

Illy CS2 just allows you to open Corel files ītill version 10, nothing else. Just download CorelX3 (Trial version) and save it as AI. If you want I can open it and save it as Illy, let me know.

Some other problems with the 'Open Direct' solution. Unlike AI, CDR files can be multi-paged.

And if you have to call the file sender to try another format anyway, maybe you should go for Press Quality PDF.

There's no 'one' universal solution.

If you do have CDraw installed, there's also a great CD<>AI clipboard macro set available at www.oberonplace.com

With this, you can also copy/paste to and fro between Corel and most of the apps in the Adobe Suite. It's great for basic stuff-- but as soon as you get into some of the whiz bang tricky features (from either side) you have to pay very close attention to what's coming through.

And in any event, almost any method of movement between Corel and Adobe usually makes text editing a major PITA.

Thanks for the suggestions and the aid, folks. Someone from here converted the files for me this morning, so I'm set to go.

I mentioned to the guy I'm working with that I don't carry Corel Draw. Looks like I'm going to have to remind him.

Good luck with reminding him you can't work with DRAW files.
I told my boss I couldn't work with idjits. He still keeps hiring them.

How very true, MyST... They just won't change, no matter what you say.

Yeah, I know.
I asked one of the older guys here about their practice of hiring idjits.
He said they've been doing it since about 6 months before I started working here.
