This is a logo for a friend's bass/audio company or something; i'm not even sure to be honest. He wanted to have king kong in it and for it to have that king kong style-- so this is what I came up with
Any crits appreciated.

I think it's great. Very original looking. Would like to see it in all black though just to get a look at it that way. Is it vector? It does help to know what the business is about.
Very cool. Love the texture and the typography.

Thanks guys.. not vector.
I think basically they build boxes for subwoofers and things like that for cars.

the simple stencil of king kong is sweet it stand out well. you should try to doing it vector format though so it will be scalable.

Nice design.
I really don't like the black glow or stroke or whatever it is on the text. It really takes away from the fact that this is supposed to be a stencil.
I think this would look awesome, if you did it in vector and lost all the grunge effects then actually made stencils and spray painted it onto the boxes. You could make a stamp for the stationery etc. That way they'd each application would have it's own unique grungey look.
The other problem I have is the grunge font. Since the k,n and g are repeated in the name you can see the identical grunge marks, which would never really happen.
Awesome illustration of the gorilla though.

Agree with all of that, thanks!
Very cool looking man! I do agree though...this should be done in Illustrator as vector art so that they can enlarge it for more versatility when printing on various sizes and media.
What font is 'customs'...it's pretty slick.
Nice job!

It's called aaiiiggghttt or something like that; I got it at dafonts.com under the top 100 fonts.

You should make it as clean as possible and then cut it out as a stencil, spray it, scan it and then live trace it.
Why? becaues then you will have an original vector logo. Using a freefont without changing it at all is risky for a logo. What if this company becomes famous? Anyone else can use that font too.

I absolutely love the illustration!
After taking in the pointers, see how it looks in Black and white...if it works in b/w then it will work all the way.
Great job!

Thanks for the advice everyone, still working on the layout and font choice before I get into vectorizing it and what not.
Here's another version,

K ONG
The O needs to be a tiny bit closer to the K.
KING
Bit more space needed between the letters here. It's a bit squished.
I don't like how NG is behind KONG. You want the company name to be easily read.

I disagree, yeah normally tight precise kerning is called for, but in this case the unpredictablity of the spacining is the the basis of the concept. As long as it is not illegibile, then do what you have to...

I like the first one a lot more. Only thing I would do is take out most of the dust and scratches, its a little too grungey, it's too much in the area of a visual interpretation to punk-rock and hardcore. Bass is the staple of hip hop which is more refined and polished sound than what the scratches represent.
The gorilla illustration is badass so is the font for "customs" just think about polishing it up a little more to better represent the sound. Either way it's still pretty badass.
