I'm ready to start a new chapter in the book of Linz. I have finally figured out what is I want to do with my life. For the past 4 or 5 months I have been doing lots of research in Graphic Design schools in the Minneapolis/ St Paul area and also in the Boston/Providence area. I want to pursue a Bachelor's Degree at AI. Art runs in my blood. (Thanks Dad!!!) My teachers throughout high school and even grade school have always pushed me to be creative and to use my crazy imagination to succeed in life. I didn't get it until now. I never thought I had talent. I never thought I'd be able to have a dream. It took me moving to Minnesota to really understand that. I work so hard and get nothing in return. I do not want this to be my life forever. The only question that comes in to play is where I will be doing my schooling? If I stay here I will somehow have to balance a job, bills, school and homesickness. Many people do it, I just don't know if I can handle all that. I'm a bit more sensitive when it comes to stress verses other people. If I move back east I would just dedicate myself to school and a part time job. No living expenses at all. It is just really hard to go from having your own space, paying your own rent, buying your own food to living with the rents again. Don't get me wrong, they are the shit, and I love them to death but I thoroughly enjoy having my own apartment. It just scares the crap out of me. I'm not remotely close the person I once was at eighteen. What exactly would I come back to? I have to make a VERY serious decision come time September. (When my lease is up.) My parents will not send me to school until I'm positive I'm going to stay where I am at.
Arg!
Good luck with all that.
Sorry to hear your rents are the shit.:D

Please realise that becoming a graphic designer will not solve this problem. As you can see from threads on here, there are many designers that feel the same way as you. Go into design because you really love it. Not for the money or the glory you think you might get. There really isn't much of either for the majority of us.

thanks guys!
I do realise this.
But nothing has felt right until now..and I've wanted to be everything! Granted, I don't have expierence with programs, but I'm a fast learner..I've done my homework..and I highly highly doubt I will get bored with it. Most of my free time is spent with my sketch pad..why not learn how to incorporate that on a computer? Eh.

Your parents sound like fantastic people to offer you thier house rent free and bill free with presumably free food and all they are asking is that you be sure where it is that you want to study.
I think that as well as doing your research into the best suited school/program for you and your "crazy imagination" you really should set a little time aside to work out your parents average annual wage over thier working life so far and calculate the cost to them of housing you, feeding you and putting you through school if you choose to take them up on thier offer. Work out how many years work it amounts to for them (because it will be years with the cost of US education) to afford you this wonderful gift. It will only serve to make you appreciate them even more and there can't be anything wrong with that.
Best of luck with choosing your studies!
