I don't see movies very often, especially in the theater. I had the chance to see a sneak peak tonight of 300, and all I can tell you is that it had everything I need in a movie. I don't want to ruin it for anyone that is going, but to all of you on the fence - go.

I've lost count of the amount of times I've watched the trailer for it, it's just so beautiful.

You can literally pause the trailer at any point and you have an amazing snapshot.

I'm worried about going to the cinema to see it as I may find it difficult to keep my jaw off the ground and dribble going everywhere. I don't think I've ever been this excited, just don't let my lass hear I said that. :)

Just don't get the popcorn.. You will end up with drool-dribbled salt and buttered flavor popcorn (ie drool slobbered popcorn). ;)

Why don't you just trick your wife?

1. To get her in the car tell her you are taking her shopping.

2. Drive to the theater. When she asks why you are here tell her you are taking her to see something romantic like Black Snake Moan and then out to dinner.

3. If she says no swallow the car keys and tell her you will be stuck here for a while - so lets just see a movie.

4. Buy tickets to the 300, since you have swallowed the keys there is no way for her to leave and she will be forced to see it with you.

Passing the car keys will probably be painful - but from what i hear the movie will be worth it.

If you do that, just make sure there's another empty seat you can retreat to when the movie starts.

I have a new favorite movie!!!! It was incredible. Go see it!

It made great use of epic storytelling in the classical sense which made my English major side geek out. And the graphics were gorgeous which made my inner designer very happy. A very Riya sort of movie.

Don't go in there expecting something like Troy or Kingdom of Heaven. Those movies sucked. 300 doesn't. This is more like Braveheart. On crack.
And don't leave as soon as it's over. The ending credits are an illustrator's wet dream.

This movie was absolutely phenomenal. Probably my favorite in a long time. Believe the hype.

Some of the best one liners ever too, which I wasn't expecting but they aren't tacky at all:

"If you hadn't noticed, we shared our culture with you all this morning"

Hilarious.

I can't wait for the DVD.

It was everything I expected but quite a bit more. I knew it would be a beautiful and fun movie, but I didn't expect it to be this well-rounded. From the art direction to the screenplay to the soundtrack, it was perfection. It's definitely one of the best movie experiences I've had.

I enjoyed it too... great movie. There was a kid in front of me (16-18) that slept through the whole thing!? I dont understand how you could do that!? Oh well, at least he wasn't annoying like I thought he was going to be when he sat down :)

We saw this movie this past weekend. It was amazing!!! Every screen composed beautifully. It was fantastic!! SEE THIS IN THE THEATER!!! I don't always like the action movies, but for those with wives that don't want to go there is a romantic side to this...not to mention all the glistening men in uniform (which happens to be a loin cloth and cape)!!! GO SPARTANS!!!

We had annoying people behind us. Talked out loud the whole time in what I believe was Hawaiian, I was thankful I couldn't understand it or it would have been more distracting. Lots of rustling too, like LOTS. So I sat perched forward for most of the flick.

I noticed that a few parents brought their young children. I mean like age 7 and under young. A bit mature for young eyes if you ask me.

I hear it's causing a furore in Iran, I saw a preview as well and I'm looking forward to it. I loved the efffects and the costume, magnificent stuff...

But I have to agree with the Iranian critics, to some extent that movies made by Hollywood often paint the rest of the world as backward...I've seen and read books on moveis made of Africa; often the Africans on there are infantilized and seem to need to be saved from themselves by a Caucasian hero...

For instance, in "The Last King of Scottland" the idea that Iddi Amin Dada was also trying to shake off the tether to Britain in post colonial Uganda is always completely ignored, granted that he did terrible things.

In the book "Out of Africa" the "native is described as "child-like" and the fact...I could go on... But I guess that's what keeps Hollywood Film relevant *shrugs shoulders*

I don't think Iran likes us much anyway. I am sure that most Americans wouldn't have any idea what they're talking about. It's not like they would connect "Persia" to Iran. Two totally different words and all.

Hollywood does perpetuate certain ideas though. Like, if you're an aging old fart, hot 22 year old women are going to wanna date you. And stuff like that.

Wow, i guess I am the only one who didn't like this movie.

I thought it was pretentious, inconsistent, poorly acted, cliche and a badly adapted screenplay. The spartans all had different accents, "patchy" the guy who kind of narrated the story had freakin' highlights in his hair and the directing was laughable at best. The only thing it really had going for it was some of the great cgi and beautiful scenery.

The soundtrack was just rediculous. From the overused classical/opera fight scene music to the videogame-esque hard rock. This is one of the worst movies I've seen in the theatre in a long time.

I say all this having loved Sin City.

I haven't seen it, but all the previews and promotion I have seen gave me this impression.

I know one doesn't go to the movies for a history lesson, but it seems the creators of this really went out of their way to butcher history(they seem to like butchery in general).

I'm not a huge fan of stylized and/or glamourized violence, or the cliché used in this where the enemy's evil is highlighted by their apparent homosexuality. I mean please, give it a rest.
Does this film ever bother to document the man-boy-love as it was widely practiced by the 'heroic" Spartans?

Sounds like a pretty adolescent movie to me. -Yes, I know, stunning visuals, et al.

I've heard a few people who weren't as enthused about it as some of us were, but they still all around thought it was decent. Most of the naysayers I've been hearing though said they haven't seen it yet, but it doesn't look that great.

Oh well, that just means one less person to compete with for the DVD release, huh?

I liked the movie but it's not the best thing since sliced bread like some people are saying.

First off, as a movie, it's not nearly as good as Sin City. It's not as well-directed, well-acted, or engaging.

It is very pretty. Most of the dialogue is bombastic; some works, most doesn't. It reminded me a lot of the early writing of George Lucas, which is both good and bad. The main character is cool and the viewer ends up liking him but most other characters need serious fleshing out. They're extremely one dimensional.

Overall, the story was fun, the movie was pretty, and the writing, direction, and acting was passable.

I'd give it a B or B-.

its not supposed to be a history lesson movie, 300 was a comic book ala graphic novel like reuber said. I loved the movie, one of my favorites that I will def be buying when it hits DVD. And for all you 300 fans, did you know the princess and her presence in the movie was added just for the screen, she isn't even in the comic.

two thumbs up by me, if you still haven't seen it, go do it right this instant

I thought it was absolutely fantastic, and I plan to buy the DVD and get a copy of the graphic novel.

I don't get why Iran would be pissed off about this - it's very loosely based on something that did actually happen, and both cultures were stylized far outside of reality. What's to object to?

I do wish people wouldn't bring littles to movies like this. If they want to break their kid's brain, get it on DVD. I don't like being keenly aware that little kids are seeing that kind of intense violence.

My jaw was on the floor when one of the fellas launched through the air and chops of the chubby emmisary's arm.

But when the bloke is on the horse, looking at the Spartans before the first fight and a sword just lands in his chest, I laughed.

I was practically crying at some parts, must not close my eyes... might miss something...

I loved the movie too, the king had the perfect classical greek look. didn't care so much for the story going on back home, the battlefield was good though
