Does it read "J" "C" in the cube? Thats been my biggest problem, I have about 10 versions. Critique this hard please, i like the pain ;)

I like the cube. I think you need to emphasize the J and C only with colour. At the moment all the white and light blue stand out, so the C is almost invisible.

The text underneath isn't working at all. You have chosen a very round, thin font that doesn't compliment your square logo at all. Try square fonts like serpentine or eurostile.

i saw a L @ a 45
instead of a J at a -45

hope that makes sence

I had to try and figure it out after reading your name. I really like it & i don't know how you could fix it other than rounding it some how.

*edit* I also think it would be better without the thin white outline around the whole thing.

because i am western and naturally read from left to right, i read the above logo as CJ.. have you tried keeping the j where it is and swapping the c to the other side?
as far as coulouring goes, i would be tempted to try the 'blank side' as a single colour, perhapse the dk blue, instead of white and blue which you have.
Also agree with the comment about font choice for your name. but i like the white outline :)

I also see an L first. The white outline looks like a 2 dimensional line around a 3 dimensional object. Besides, the mind will see that shape when you look at the logo. I agree with everyone about using a different font. I think Bank Gothic may be a good fit. The letters are square and blocky, but it has some rounded corners. You may be able to round some corners in the cube to make the letters easier to recognize. I'm looking forward to seeing the final.

Revisions:
Took budas advice with a new font
Removed white boarder around cube (not sure if I like it without)
Working with the colors to make the J and C more recognizable. (I am not so hot at picking colors, if i could get some pointers with this?)
Spanky; i can't really move the letters around, or they don't work together geometrically.

Also, I don't know what to do with the side that is outlined in version 2. I've been told this is weak, and reading at an = sign, or as i's?

/Change your angle, Justin. The whole cube needs to be rotated to the right, as that bad side you highlighted on #2 has way too much emphasis in the image. Also, rotating downwards will make the definition of the J over C more clear, so people can read JC instead of CJ. The right rotation should remove the LC/CL confusion.

I liked your original design, I think you don't really need to have the letters super noticeable. If it isn't a person would be looking at the logo, and see your name... and the cube, and than notice the C and the J in it. and I don't see the L in it. the only issue is that I noticed the J first and the C after. What about putting the J where the C is and the J where the "=" sign is?

it reminds me of a skate shop logo that I see allthe time.. but the skate shop name escapes me.

I dunno I see a J, but also an L.

it looks cool. these types of logos don't always need to be perfectly readable. However, there are a lot of them out there.... still cool though.

After hearing feedback from my class, I think i am pretty happy with the logo how it is now. So now i need to create a business card, letterhead, and envelope. For my business card I got kind of a cool idea I think, but i need your opinions. Because my logo could actually geometrically exist, i was thinking I could make my card foldable, into the logo i designed.

here is a reminder of how it looked:
http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/5323/picture2gh4.png

So the card will be 3.5"x4" (twice as tall as a normal card). It will fold in half to be 2"x3.5" so will fit in holders, wallets, etc. Unfolded, this will be the back:

its just a simple cube template, that you could cut and fold into my logo. I know this is a little impractical, and this wouldn't actually be my card, but I think my professors would appriciate I went a little farther then my classmates, and their 2 dimentional designs.

I will have a little guild in one of the corners you cut off that says like "fold me up" and has a little diagram. What should I put in the other empty areas though..? i am stumped here. Plain black looks boring, and white isn't much better. I was planning on putting my contact information on the other side, so i don't think i need to try to fit that in there...
Thanks all!

I agree with what a few people have said, you're design isn't reading properly right to left, top to bottom, like western default. Perhaps you'd be better off to have the J where the C is, and the C on the problematic highlighted side (= side). Then you have issue with how to fill the top, but I think empty top is better. That or else rotate the J one quarter turn counter clockwise. It isn't really the default way to read that to tilt your head that way after reading the C (which I think reads first the way you have it), and it's easy to miss or misread.

The idea to actually make it in 3D is extremely cool by the way. I'm not sure what practical purpose it has, but I'm sure eventually you'll think of something, and it will really make you stand out among other designs and designers. Way to think... dare i use the cliche... outside the box.
