I was inspired by another thread, the Subconscious Ripoff one.

But what does your name mean? Your real one that is.

Don't post your real name, unless you want to. Just the meaning.

Mine would be,

Brave Power of the Wood Sawer

So I'm a hard as nails lumberjack then. That'd explain the high heals in the wardrobe.

Where did you get the name definitions? I think I usually use www.behindthename.com

In Morea's database link, my first name shows up as "unknown origin", my last name doesn't show up at all.
Wonder what that means?

My first and last names together roughly translate to "Queen Bee". Coincidentally, I worked for a tiny record company called "Queen Bee" right out of college.

My first and middle names mean
"fair", "white", "smooth", and "lake"
Neither my Scottish married nor my English maiden last names showed up, I'm not sure that database is designed for last names.

So I guess I'm a calm lake reflecting a sky of bright white clouds.

Most peoples names are quite positive and pleasant.

There must be some names out there that translate into something rather unfortunate.

Well, my first and middle names mean "Grace" and "My God is abundance", respectively. Unfortunately, my last name means "one who prepares animal hides". Unfortunate enough?

My name James "Suplanter" isn't all too nice, it invoves takeing another one's place by deception.

My wife and I actually considered naming our son Ichabod, but the meaning of "departed glory" was depressing sounding. (I suppose Washington Irving looked up the meaning too).

At first it seems all good, but then it turns ugly:

"In part it means simply "rose" from the word for the fragrant flower (derived from Latin rosa). However, it may have originally been a short form of names beginning with the Germanic element hros meaning horse."

Yee haw!

Typically

From the Latin meaning "watchful, alert"

From a surname which was derived from a place name meaning either "at the rocks" or "at the nook" in Old English.

haha i'm watching the rocks

Drazan
03-12-2007, 10:28 PM
Jade (nick): Simply means "jade" from the name of the precious stone that is often used in carvings. It is probably derived from the Spanish (piedra de la) ijada meaning "(stone of the) colic", relating to the belief that jade could cure colic.

Drazan: Derived from the Slavic element dorogo meaning "precious"

aka: a Bohemian Healer :)

my first name means "man" pretty descriptive i know.
middle name means "man of the earth", so we're making some progress.
last name means "the voice", or "of the voice", which is probably handed down from generations originally meaning loudmouth.

Botchup

First name means "Beloved" or "King".
Middle name means "Who is like a God".

If you add them together, you get:
"A beloved, God-like King."

You may all start grovelling... now.

Oh, my surname has no meaning, but is kinda a referral to the male genitalia.

So I guess if you wanted to add THAT on, you'd get:
"A beloved, God-like King. Can be a dick sometimes."

Mine is:

From a surname which was originally from a place name meaning "settlement on the summit" in Old English.
Which isn't terribly inspiring or exciting. But then again, my actual first name is a shortened form of the full name (Clint instead of Clinton), so it probably only means "summit" now, since the "-on" suffix is often used at the end of town names (which I guess would indicate the "settlement" part).

Apparently, my name, which is a derivative (albeit an old one) of a male name, means victory of the people. :)

In terms of my screen name, it's my own recipe, a combination of a play on words and the latin root for bear, an animal for which I've always had an affinity and often dream about (yeah, I'm sure you're all surprised it's not penguins or creatures with noodly appendages :D ). Wile means lore or smarts. So my screen name (to me) means bear smarts. :D

Derived from the Greek ?????? (Petros) meaning "stone". This is a translation used in most versions of the New Testament of the name Cephas (meaning "stone" in Aramaic) which was given to the apostle Simon by Jesus (compare Matthew 16:18 and John 1:42). Simon Peter was the most prominent of the apostles during Jesus's ministry and is considered by some to be the first pope.

My wife would confirm that my head is as dense as a rock sometimes. I'd have to agree.

My actual name means "crown."

My nickname is a the name of a character from a comic drawn by Jamie Hewlett. The character, Hewligan, had mad hair that detuned reality. So, probably a far more appropriate name for me, then.
