I've been wanting to get more involved photography in the last 2 years. Family, friends, outsiders has encouraged me to get more involved. They tell me my eye is good with the camera, but anyways, I found a group here in Chattanooga that meet in East Ridge the 15th. I was wondering since I don't have the big SLR camera if anyone would know if I should go or not. I would love to go, but I don't want to feel out of place with my Sony DSC H-2 camera, since its not SLR. Any advice?

For one you could start your own thread... you'd get more feed back that way, and you wouldn't be highjacking Exodus' thread!
But I say if you're into it... go! You may be surprised to find more people with out big fancy cameras there too. Or maybe not, but you could still have fun!
EDIT: ps I like the sunset pictures too Ex... nicely done!

How do I apologize to Exodus? I am new on here and didn't know exactly what I was doing. Thanks for splitting it up for me. Can I delete what I put on Exodus thread?

No worries, I just moved your posts into their own thread. No need to delete anything. And I am sure Exodus doesn't mind.
You don't need an SLR to take good pictures, or to love photography. Why not contact the group in question and see if they have any restrictions on cameras... I wouldn't think that there would be any. I'd go, if it was me.

If you want to post to this thread, just hit "post reply".
Do you have the "Quick Reply" box showing below the last post in the thread? You can just type in there and click "post quick reply" to respond to a thread. To start a new thread, you will need to go to the appropriate forum (click the button at the top of the page that says "The GDF Forum" and read down through the different topics. There is one for "Photography" which is probably what you're looking for in this case. Click on the forum name (Photography) and you will see a button labelled "new thread". Hope that helps some.

you have a good camera. Unless you totally understand apeture priorty, shutter priority and manual modes, there is no point in getting slr. If you are going to shoot in auto mode you are better off saving your money and sticking with your H-2. Nothing makes me madder than seeing poeple with an SLR shooting in auto mode. They are nothing but poseurs.
Your camera does manual. It has live view. This is good when trying to learn photography and exposure. When you truly understand the coorelation between ISO, apeture, and Shutter speed to where it becomes second nature, you can move on to an SLR to learn about DOF, Hyperfocal distance, and a RAW workflow. If you don't learn it you'll be like my co worker who shoots hundreds of shots with different settings to try and get what he wants without any knowledge of what he's doing. He eventually gets what he wants either by luck or by settling for the best of the worst and spending time photoshopping it for a couple hours...

I was wondering how the hell my old sunset thread got bumped! So you live in Chatty, eh? Well I would go to the group meet anyway. You could learn a whole lot as far as photography itself is concerned. I live just inside GA about .75 miles from East Ridge BTW. When and where is that meeting?

Sorry about me intruding on your thread Exodus. I didn't know what I was doing. The meeting is held this Thursday starting at 6:30 p.m. @ the East Ridge community Center. Its $45.00 a year to join, but I'm not sure if thats just to visit or not. I'm not sure where the Community center is either, but I can find out. Its called PSC (Photographic Society of Chattanooga). I found it online.

That's alright! I'm not sure where the Community Center is.... $45 per year isn't a bad deal though. If you go, you should post here how is went and your thoughts on the whole thing. I'd be interested to know how it goes. :)
