So here is a logo that is driving me crazy - and i want to know how some of you experts would deal with it. The company sent us the logo this way to print and when we sent them the proof - they said that the letter o was wrong.
It is their mistake since they sent it this way but i figured i could fix it real fast but it is becoming a bit of an ordeal. There is no option to ungroup all the letters and expand didn't seem to work. Also i just want to work on the o layers but i can't select those without moving everything else around.
Just curious how you experts would work this one out or should i just tell the company to fix it?
Look at the file at www.timmieboose.com/eb (http://www.timmieboose.com/eb)

make a compound path. Select the two shapes of the O and hit Crtl 8 (make compound path). Apple 8 for a mac.

Actually that didn;t work, but dividing the two did. I will figure out exactly why and post back later.

Just realized it already was a compound path. I release it and you can move all the pieces around (so quick fix is divide the two O pieces and delete inside). Something is definitely wonky going on with just that piece. I checked to make sure all the paths were closed, which they were. You can make compund paths with either of the two shapes and any new shape, but for some reason they won't work together.

selecting both shapes and exlcuding works too.

But I think the initial problem is the compound path had to be released (artist's error)

yeah - i ended up releasing the compound path then taking the two pieces of the o and dividing or trimming or something and got it to work. Everyone thinks i'm a genius now.
i get confused when are you supposed to expand, trim, divide - all that pathfinder stuff -
Thanks for your input!

I tried to oopen the file on my Mac at work and it lookd as if that file may have originally been a PDF. Check it in outline mode and make sure there aren'y any invisble boxes....they have the potential to do wierd things when going to plate.

One thing regarding something else. When I downloaded the .ai-file you provided here, it converted into a .ps automatically. What's up with that?

It didn't do that for me. What version of Illy are you using?

As far as the original question, the path is buggy. Not your fault. Something to do with how they had a compound path with physically seperated pieces. Each letter should've had its own compound path for that tan color. The path for the O is wonky, too. It's way off of the elipse, and has a warped edge. Again, not your fault. :D

As you did, dividing is the best way, but there's no "standard" method, as this is a bad file.

Is that 0px stroke meant to be a die line?
