This image was made to mainly for fun, the message I wanted to convey was of control. Controlling yourself, emotions etc. It's not at all professional-but tear it to pieces from everything to text positioning to message effectively being expressed, if you have a spare minute. ^^.

I don't know if any of you have seen X-Men Three, but hopefully those who have would understand the relevenace of Jean Grey aka The Phoenix xD. Yes I love X-Men. :p

Because you are a beginner...

This looks like a sig. Is that the intent?
(It better be as using a copyrighted character in pro work will make you poor real quick. A blind eye is usually turned toward fan-generated work that is not-for-profit)

The image of Jean was low-res to begin with, right? (or was it saved at too low a resolution before posting?) The posted image has a lot of enlargement artifacts in it (Halos and dead spots). This would be unacceptable in printed work.

Your imagery is ok for the intent. Chains and whatnot but the low res quality detracts from that intent. The repetition in one direction and the static quality don't help much either in causing viewer tension. Not losing control is about tension.

Yeah it's 100% fan work ^^.

You're right, I don't really pay attention when saving and all that, I just sorta hit save and enter till it's done ;P. I'm going to need to work on that.

Well this is the original image of Jean: http://img58.imageshack.us/img58/8241/x31088re1.jpg
The original was a huge file, something like 1280x800px.. and I only needed it to be about 200px in width (thats cropping some of the unwanted bits out). So I didn't really do any image enlargements cause it was so big o_O.. I did make it smaller though, would that of made halos and dead spots (<- I'll have to research what they are to ^^-Wow soo much to learn!)

The 'big' Jean I wanted to make her more 'scary' so I was just playing around with brightness and contrast, I dunno if doing that may of messed up the image a bit.

So do you think I should make the chains a bit more random? Sort of thing?

Thanks for your input! ^^ I'll try remake the image and post it here, taking in your advice :P

Haloes and dead spots are not any type of standard jargon. It's what our particular shop calls the fuzzy area around highlights and the bad guessing of pixel color by rendering engines.

The 'huge' image you refer to is only about 4" x 2" at 300dpi.
When making the image smaller did you UN-check resample image? That would be your mistake.

Sigs are fine for playing and learning the tools. They have very little GD value.

Ah, that's again PrintDriver :p I do need to concentrate more on what Im doing.

Yeah I understand what you mean with sigs having very little GD value :/.. Should I start doing the activities that this forum provides?

Oh and how did you figure out what the dpi of that image was?

Hmmm, so anything 200-300+ is a good quality dpi image?

And I've UN-checked resample, but it can't see any changes in size of the image :/

print work is generally done at 300dpi.

When you open any image (in photoshop...) you can check the size by hitting Ctrl+I to open the image size dialogue.

You normally want to leave image resampling checked and set to bicubic.

You want to leave resampling UNchecked and whether you set it to bicubic, bicubic smoother or bicubic sharper depends on whether you are enlarging or decreasing the size of the image and by how far.

Know thy tool.

Get a book. Any of the Quickstart guides will do.

Yeah 300 to size is a good quality image... but if you have an image that is 300dpi at 2x2 and you need it to be 10x10... well than the resolution goes down or get blurred in photoshop to stay at same resolution.
