In December I had a promotion (by default only) as well as a $2 per hour pay rise. Apparently I'm doing a good job because they're paying me an extra $1 per hour as of Monday :)

I like the dollar raises. My last job gave out raises by the $0.25 and $0.50. Dollar ones make things easier :D

Congrats! I guess that's one of the perks of working for somebody else. I've been thinking of giving myself a raise, but I can't really afford it right now. So maybe I'll give myself one of those meaningless title promotions to try to placate myself in the meantime. Maybe I'll promote myself from "owner" to "senior owner", or maybe "president". Oooh, that sort of has a nice ring to it.

So long as you're giving yourself a title instead of a raise, why do it by halves?
I say you should promote yourself to "God-Emporer of Design!" I would :D

That would be aaawwesome! man i'd never need to give myself a raise with a title like that. the problem is then there is really nowhere to promote myself to after that. You're sort of at a glass ceiling once you hit "god-emporer". I like to leave myself somewhere to go. I guess I could always make myself "Senior God-Emporer of Design" in a few years.

my wife is a space science engineer, and one of her professors used to work for nasa. apparently at nasa the top guys are called directors, and there are directors of each different area of study, like director of earth studies, director of solar studies etc. but apparently the guy who is in charge of studying the universe- his title is honest to god just, "director of the universe." how sweet would those businesss cards be?
the professor said that guy had a massively inflated ego because of his title.
