Hi there,
Having a bit of a problem in CS2, its happened before but I can't seem to do anything with it.
The program closes down every time I paste text into a text box...no warnings, just closes straight away.
When I type in the text manually it is fine...not ideal, however If I try to resize the text box it will crash again.
Currently working on a large brochure so a little fustrating!
Anyone know what could be wrong?
Thank you
Lau

If you're working on a Mac, I'd try trashing the preferences. I'm not sure what the equivalent of that is in Windows, though.

Ive managed to delete the preferences, didnt work and the same problem is happening which is a shame, its driving me a bit crackers.
If anyones got any ideas at all as to what it could be please let me know.
Thanks!

Never had that problem before. Does it crash every time you paste text in - or only when you paste in a lot of copy? Try pasting 1 word. If that works, try doing it in paragraphs only - whatever it can handle. Save after ever paste.

Also, do you have the fonts loaded on your machine that matches the text that you are pasteing into the document?

Hey there, Yeah, Im pasting from another ps document that I made yesterday. all the fonts are installed, theyre all pretty standard also.
If i paste in a couple of words its fine but i still cant resize the box at all.
Problem is im working on a very large holiday brochure containing alot of text so this has put me at a bit of a hault.
Thanks for your reply though.

This doesn't answer your question, but why are you doing text for a brochure in Photoshop?
In terms of your question, does the same thing happen in the Photoshop document you're copying the text from? It almost sounds like a corrupted font or corrupted font cache problem.

Could be. As a test use several different fonts and see if it still happens.

I wondered that too, but I'm guessing they have a valid reason...

Reason is I work for a small company and photoshop is what we have.
Ive tried with different fonts, It doesnt appear to change anything.

Well, I'll address this on a couple of different fronts:
Front one: You are not seriously contemplating doing a large brochure entirely in Photoshop are you? No, I mean really. You need a layout program, like InDesign, to do that stuff.
Second front: there is probably something that needs to be addressed on the system level, I can't advise, as it sounds like you're on Windows, and I'm not super familiar with the operating system, so you'll need a different viewpoint on that. Hopefully someone will weigh in on that.

Urstwile thanks for your reply. As for the brochure, as I said I dont have a choice in it unfortunatly, its what always been used, all pages are made individually so its never been a problem, alot of imagery is used also.
Ive reinstalled the programme now, still the same problems.
Not had this problem before on this machine so Im not sure what to do about this.

This sounds like a system problem. Does the popup that says "windows has encountered a problem and needs to close this program" ?
Since you have already reinstalled PS - it is probably that your hard drive doesn't have enough space to write temp files/cache is full or the undo files or you don't have enough Ram in the computer to complete the task.
How to tell?
Right click on the Start button and then left click on Explore. And go to your "My Computer" (If you still have a shortcut on your desktop or menu you can use that as well)
Right click on your "C:" Drive and click on properties. This will tell you hard drive space. If it is less that 10 Gig, consider your hard drive too full to handle the document.
Next
Hold down the CTL+ALT keys and tap DEL key. Then if a dialog box pops up choose Task Manager - else the task manager will automaticaly open depending on your windows setup.
Now click on the "Performance tab" this will tell you how much your CPU and Ram you have used and available.
Last
Right click your Start button and left click Search (or use a short cut if youhave one) and search all files and folders for *.tmp and *.temp
All temp files can be safely deleted from the system.
Also as a tip if you look at the bottom left corner by the clock and see all those little icons? Those are programs that are running in the background of the computer. Shut down/Exit all that are not needed.
Try that and see if it helps. If not there's other slightly more difficult things that you can do to make your system faster. Also note that in the taskmanager screen at the bottom status bar there's "Processes: #" with a number. Let me know that for the next step if needed.
Good Luck.

Thanks for your reply, no errors come up at all, it just closes.
I had a look, 117 gb left so no probs there, Ive gone through deleting the temp files also :)
~Just tried on a different computer with the trial version installed...same problem occured using the same file.

Try using "Save As" and save it with a different name. Sometimes that clears some annomolies with the file itself.
You could also try to paste the text into Notepad then copy from there into your document. That will drop any odd formatting that's not compatible.

Also check and see if there is an update for your Photoshop. It sounds like it could be just that particular file. What happens if you open a new file and paste text--same thing happens?
