Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?

r, there are some samples on the warp records site. after hearing them i went out and bought an album. dont know where else to hear any of his stuff online without being a pirate.

dy, what are your favorite breaks from that list? my fav is the amen, since almost every ragga-jungle song is made from it. i also like the apache and the funky drummer, which isn't there for some reason. yeah... breakbeats!

Well, it's one louder, isn't it? It's not ten. You see, most blokes, you know, will be playing at ten. You're on ten here, all the way up, all the way up, all the way up, you're on ten on your guitar. Where can you go from there? Where?

hey delete,
do you know of any good production forums for that expermental style of hip-hop? what do you call that, downtempo, idm? i have a friend who produces ragga, but most of his recent stuff sounds more like the things you've suggested. he's looking for a place to share some of those tracks and get some good feedback. any suggestions?

My top three and why:

Bob James 'Mardi Gras'
I credit RUN DMC's 'Peter Piper' as the song got me into hip hop, so that beat has always had a special place in my heart. It's a true classic, and just one of the funkiest beats ever recorded. You can't listen to this and not want to do a windmill, right into a backspin on a 5' x 5' piece of cardboard.

Mohawks 'The Champ'
KRS ONE is the sh!t. 'Step into a World' is one of my favorite songs of all-time, plus I got to hug KRS a few weekends ago when I saw him. The keyboard riff epitomizes that early 90's concious rap movement, which is my favorite era of hip hop.

Herman Kelly & Life 'Dance to the Drummers Beat'
This is just a classic. I remember listening to all kinds of tapes back in the day that sampled this one, so it's kind of become a part of me. I dunno, when I hear it it feels like home. The most memorable (though not the greatest) example of this one is on the B-side of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's classic 'I'm the DJ, he's the Rapper.' I remember listening to the live tracks in my room late at night when I was like 8 or 9. *sniff* It gets me right here *places palm on chest*

Thanks for the history lesson and the nostalgia, synpa, that seriously made my day.

Now Peter Piper picked peppers, but Run rapped rhymes.
Humpty Dumpty fell down, that's his hard time.
Jack B. Nimble, what, nimble, and he was quick,
but Jam Master was faster, Jack saw Jay's dick.
Now little Bo Peep cold lost her sheep
and Rip van Winkle fell the hell asleep.
And Alice stilled her hunger in Wonderland
Jack [...] Jill busta in his hand.
And Jam Master Jay is making out our sound,
the turntables might wobble but they don't fall down.

I got the juice and Mother Goose both did that thing.
Jam Master's gettin' loose and DMC's the king.
Cause he's adult entertainer, child educator,
Jam Master Jay, king of the crossfader.
He's the better of the best, best believe he's the baddest.
Perfect timin' when I'm climbin', I'm rhymin' at fast.
When he cuts, girls move their butts.
His name is Jay, hear the play, he must be nuts.
And on the mix, real quick, and I'd like to say
he's not fat, but he's fast and his name is Jay!

It goes a one, two, three and...

Jay's like King Midas, as I was told,
everything that he touched, turned to gold.
He's the greatest of the great, get it straight he's great.
Playing fame cause his name is known in every state.
His name is Jay to see him play will make you say:
'Goddamn, that DJ made my day!'
Like the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker,
he's a maker, a breaker, and a title taker.
Like the little old lady who lived in a shoe.
If cuts were his, he would be you.
I'm not lying, y'all, he's the best I know,
and if I lie, my nose will grow
like the little wooden boy named Pinochio,
and you all know how the story goes!

Tricks are for kids he plays much gigs.
He's the big bad wolf and you're the three pigs.
He's the big bad wolf in your neighbourhood,
not bad meaning bad, but bad meaning good!

There it is...

We're Run-DMC, got a beat to settle.
D's not Hansel, he's not Gretel.
Jay's a winner, not a beginner.
His pocket gets fat, other get thinner.
Jump on Jay like cows on moons,
People take Jay like dish and spoon.
Hands like all, first hails aim,
you'll see Jay again my friend!
Huh!

I wanna be like Case when I grow up!

Today I begin to understand what love must be, if it exists.... When we are parted, we each feel the lack of the other half of ourselves. We are incomplete like a book in two volumes of which the first has been lost. That is what I imagine love to be: incompleteness in absence.
