this magazine was supposed to be closed yesterday... editorial is still making changes. Who gets crapped on? The designers of course.

We are looking at the first issue in 2 years to ever miss a deadline... It's highly likely we may miss our release date. This is how magazines go out of business real fast.

I feel you. I work for a magazine too, and I feel I'm absolutely getting shat on. It was due to the printer on Monday...so the week before...I clocked 90 hours...90 HOURS!!! They want perfection from crap they give me. we are doing 100,000 dollars worth of ads, and I'm the only graphic designer on staff for the magazine and the retail store the CEO also owns. I am also responsible for letterhead, stationary, and business cards for the whole operation. They tried to lay some more responsibility on me today, and i said NO...and they told me that I was having a negative attitude because I wanted to limit the amount of proofs the advertisers are getting (some of them are getting 10) I'm about to pull my hair out!

I know, I know... 'absolute' cut off dates only truly exist in utopias, or designer-run societies. Only in the paradise that will be 'Boobie Island' will designers know true respect and appreciation.

I used to be an AD with alot of print background but I am working now as a tech business analyst/project manager to support designers for the whole company. I have been recently trying to help out the magaizne division because of new restructuring they have had a hard time meeting deadlines. My deadlines are based on their deadlines so we are all getting screwed here. I'd rather not get into too much detail but it's been stressing.

I am trying to move them into an indesign/pdf workflow and standardize their design production processes but lately, its been like trying to just keep the ship afloat and not worry about replacing it at the moment. I have alot of design opinions but I would rather not say on a public forum.

The Magazine if it's the one you mention before has a pretty good layout. Good thing it's not Timeout cause I really don't like there look, heck I don't like the editorial either. I keep forgeting to send you my <cough>res</cough> I'll hit you up on monday cause once again I've forgotten to bring it in.
