can you outline a stroke in Indesign - just like you can in illustrator?
if so how?

Not that I know of. And it's sometimes not very easy to get an InD file into Illustrator to do it either. This is only one of the reasons I hate sign design done in Q or InD.

thanks for you help.
i have just pasted it into illustrator converted it and pasted it back into indesign - it works fine but just seems like a long way around!

Are you talking about just a line? You could draw the line as a thin rectangle, and then give it an outline in ID.

no, i am wanting to know if you can outline a stroke i have drawn - just like you can with paths in illustrator.

The easiest way is to export your InDesign doc as a PDF. Open the PDF in Illustrator and either drag or copy and paste your line back to InDesign.

Ya, that's pretty obvious - this was meant for people in the same situation as myself who were looking for an answer now. Ah, the beauty of forums.
