SuperKill, the alien dude, has been around since the beginning of Quark.
Kill 5 boxes and see the BIG alien (Maybe the big guy is only in Q4.11, I haven't seen him in 6)

cheers for that - i thought I'd gone insane. I was re-sizing a pic and then the alien appeared. Thank God, now I can rest easy and put mental health issues aside...

are you referring to the one where you hold down Command (PC: Ctrl) and select Help > About Photoshop?

While holding down Ctrl and Alt, choose Help » About Photoshop (from the menus).

1: Make sure you see the layers palette, if not, go to Window then click on Layers.
2: In the top right of the layers palette there is a little arrow pointing to the right.
3: Hold ALT, click the arrow and click on Palette Options.
4. A little window with Merlin and a flower will pop up..

You can do a search for easter eggs on any given program.

Here's one for InDesign.

The Friendly Alien
Define a print preset from the File menu > Print Presets> Define. Call it Friendly Alien (with capital F and A). Then go to File>Print and select your new print preset. Click on the page display in the print dialog...

Open Adobe Illustrator (any version from 5 up).
Go to File > New.
At the bottom of the window in the status bar area, there is a menu that displays the current tool (by default). The menu can be changed to display other options by clicking on the menu.
Hold down Alt+Shift (Windows) or Option+Shift (Mac).
While holding down these keys, click on the menu and you will have additional options to display several fun facts.
Tips:
The hidden options may vary depending on your version of Illustrator. Some include the Moon Phase, Eyes, Days 'til Christmas, Mouse Clicks, and Random Number.
Hitting the Shift key when "Illustrator Units Sold" is displayed will change the number.

That guy in Quark scared the crap out of me once. I had already known about it, but had totally forgotten that it existed, and I went to make some text all caps (apple+shift+k, but hit the option too by mistake) and all of a sudden eveything goes technicolor. Funny thing is I kept conjuring him up by mistake for the rest of the day.

I love finding Easter eggs. I didn't know about the ones in the Adobe programs, I'll have to check 'em out.
