calligraphy stroke help

Hi folks. I made this in illy. I like it. However i am havin a problem. The top line is a calligraphy paint brush. The letters are font. The problem is it looks good now, but when i try to resize it everything screws up. I tried creating outlines on both the stroke and letters. Doesnt work, cause the stroke will shrink size on the conversion. any ideas? is this because it is a brush stroke? any way around this?

Yes. Use object -> Expand appearance on it. That will convert the stroke to a shape and should fix your problem.

there is a setting in the preferences "Scale strokes and effects" make sure that is turned on as well.
