All you lovelies out there, are you able to get quotes on this thing?

Specifications:
Size: 182mm x 106mm
170gsm coated stock
28 pages
Full colour, 2 sides, full bleed.
Trim and pack

Let's get quotes for 1000, 5000 and 10,000 for now.

If you can post prices in US currency just for ease of comparison.
Thanks all!

I'll get a price from my work, but I'm don't think it's going to work being printed in New Zealand as they will all have to be shipped elsewhere.

What type of calendar is this? I converted mm to inches and what I'm getting is 7.165x4.173. It seems small for a wall calendar. Is this a desk calendar? If so, how will it bind? Any other details I need to know to make an estimate, shipping maybe?

You are absolutely right with the inches conversion. It's a desk calendar that won't bind. It is sitting in a case to keep it all need and tidy, so I guess the collating with have to be done with a coloured slip sheet to make it easier for whomever is going to pack and ship them.

More here. (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24510)

Buda, this is a small desk calendar and it will print both sides, not one sided? I'm trying to understand the concept. This will not bind, it will reside in a box or case? When a month goes by you'll flip the month (page) over in its box for the following month?

Jim,
It's a weekly calendar. There will be a total of 54 different images, (53 weeks + a cover) They will be printed one week on each side of a sheet for a total of 27 sheets per calendar. I think the easiest way to do it would be to have the people move the front sheet to the back of the stack after each week is over, then when it gets back to the first week they would simply turn the entire stack around and start over.

Specs
7.165x4.173 final cut
Stock - Buda has determined that 170gsm is the proper thickness to fit in the holder. Sorry I don't know off hand what that translates to in pts or lbs.
Ink - 4/4 CMYK
Bindery - Trim, collate, shrink wrap
Shipping - Not determined yet

That's how I envisioned it too. Though I really got to think hard at how much fun it will be for the collaters! I guess I will send a printed sample with the job and staple it together so that it makes sense.

This job would most problably print on one or two large sheets then folded down in order then trimmed 4 sides. It would save on collating time and time in general.

So that means I would send the whole thing as a 1 up document for the printers to figure out to set up on a sheet? Please say yes...

I think that would be the case. Page 1 (cover) > Page 54. Most shops that
I know of that can make the fold that jimking is talking about are going to
have (or make) the template for their press and folding equipment. I know
that if you sent it here I would be pretty pissed if you tried to lay out the
press sheet yourself without getting a template from me first. It would make
a lot of extra work for you and me.

I have relationships with more than 5 different printers and I sent off requests for quotes today. One of them I use for quite a bit of business, so I am going to see if I can use that pull to get us a deal. Buda, I will PM you with results if that's ok, but I know that at least one of these guys will take a week to get back to me, if not more.

That's fine.

I'm just wondering how we're going to compare the prices?

Is it illegal to post the prices on this forum? Or should everyone just submit prices to me and I will contact the "winner".

I do feel bad trying to find the lowest "bidder" - wouldn't we just hate it if someone did this back to us? But this is for charity, so every cent we save goes to Ana and her family.

That's why I though I should PM the quotes to you...then I suppose we should compare not only the prices, but our experiences with the various printers as to quality, etc...I know what you mean about the lowest bidder thing...I often have to submit 2, 3, sometimes more quotes to my boss and then the other printers call me and want to know if they got the job...I hate that part of my job. But sometimes they let me decide, so I give the job to whomever does whatever it is best...i.e., one printer is better at labels, another at packaging, still another does great postcards, but not much else...and sometimes the guys who are the best come in at the lowest.

I don't think we should post the prices, though. PM to committee members, I think. ?

The cases that these are going into should they be included in the cost of print as a finishing cost or have these already been sourced?

How will proofing (color proofs) be handled? Hard proofs, pdf proofs etc.?

budafist

Goodness. I don't know. Who would be proofing a hard copy?

Cases will need to be sourced from online because hardly anyone I know has them.

Heh heh with 53 different contributors we won't be doing any specific color matching, eye pleasing color will have to do. A pdf proof sent to buda so she can confirm layout and that all are there should be fine. :)

I do prepress all day long. It was kind of fun to just play around a little bit. You should at least have some fun trying and maybe let out some emotion. If it turns out terrible just throw it away, but I bet it will look pretty cool. Even if you don't like it at first, I'm sure the rest of us will appreciate it. (I think its kind of like hair, when its your own you think its horrible and uncontrollable, but when you see someone else's you say, "now why can't I have hair like that.")

Maybe next year. I did have a artistic side. As a kid growing up, I was into art and music in school and at home but it faded away, my left brain took over.:)

I'd bet if you picked up that pencil/brush again you will be amazed at what you can accomplish. Kind of like riding a bike.

If you dout yourself, your goal will never be accomplished.

Quotes to be PM-ed please? Anyone? I got a quote from my work, but I don't think printing in New Zealand will be any good as the shipping costs will a PITA.

NEW QUOTE AMOUNTS:
500 & 1000.

Previous amounts were too ambitious!
