I figure since this is the Graphic Design Forum, it must be filled lots of creative people, many of whom are married. I was curious if any of you married creatives did anything especially creative for your big day. Cool wedding favors your guests actually liked? Funky invitations? Unique location?

My boyfriend and I have pretty much decided to take the big plunge and tie the knot. This isn't official yet (no ring as of yet, so don't jinx me! ;)), but since we've tentatively planned on May of 2008 – not a tremendous amount of time – I'm at least looking to get some inspiration before I get into the serious planning stages.

Any thoughts? Website suggestions? Advice? Words of discouragement? :D

lol, I had a medieval wedding. I actually wrote the ceremony myself (trying to keep it as 'in period' as possible) and made my own invitations (parchment with wax seals). We decorated with hand made plywood shields painted up with Latin mottoes and heraldic blazons, my dad made some wooden poleaxes for the honor guard, and we all dressed in full medieval garb with hand made ankle length cloaks.

For the reception we had a buffet style table set up with different breads and soups, meats, cheeses, vegetables and mulled cider.

It was a blast.

does your bf have a sense of humor? You could always try this:

Officiant (to bride): Do you take this man to be your lawful wedded husband in good times or in bad?

You (after brief pause): in good times. I didn't know I got to choose. :D

Knowing him, there will be plenty of comments like that without any prompting! :D

My wife and I had our weeding on the end of a long pier over the ocean on Tybee Island, Ga. The reception was in the large pavilion that was attached to the pier. Wedding guests received vials with different colored sand levels and a small sea shell. The top was corked and a ribbon wrapped at top that had the date of the wedding.

Those pancakers took forever to make. Thank God the family helped!

Recently, I've been doing some freelance editing of a local magazine's website, the mag is called San Diego Bride and Groom.

I've seen some pretty cool stuff in there, so feel free to check it out, Virgo. SD Bride and Groom (http://www.sandiegobrideandgroom.com)

*Site design is not mine, I just update the articles.

I wanted to go all medieval, but my fiance didn't. So we comprimised. I got a medival dress with long flowy sleeves. And no shoes. I spent six months looking for a pair of dressy shoes that actually fit me. The only ones I found were in the little kids section and had rainbows and butterflies. So I bought a pair of adult shoes that didn't quite fit. I'd been wearing them for about ten minutes when my feet started to hurt, so I decided to pancake it all, it was my wedding, and I wasn't going to wear painful shoes just to conform to someone else's idea of what was proper. So I ditched the shoes. All of my bridesmaids thought this was a great idea, so we all went barefoot.

He was going to wear slacks and a button up shirt, but his groomsmen bullied him into letting them wear tuxes and if they were going too he had too as well.

We had it down by the river late in the afternoon, then the reception was a few miles away. The sun was setting just as we were toasting, then the lights that we had strung up everywhere were turned on and the candles were lit. A sky full of stars and a full moon made it all very romantic.

We had a lot of fun with the vows too, mixing the traditional stuff with some more personal stuff: "Do you promise to love, honor, cherish and always share the covers?"

Our wedding was at a place called Lake FarmPark, that is a giant working farm. It was outdoors, casual and very laid back. I took that approach for planning, too. I refused to be stressed out about anything, and we succeeded.
We made our own invitations too, and then hand watercolored each of them, which was turned out to be a really nice relaxing item on our "to do" list.

One other item of note is that my husband and I had pre planned to end the ceremony with us walking down the aisle doing silly walks. I did the classic John Cleese big leg stride thing, and my husband ended it with the falling down on your knees walk a la Terry Jones. It made for a nice video clip wedding souvenir. :)
