Dutone!

HI,

i used Corel Draw 11 to produce a catalogue of one color (pantone) including images which were converted to the same monotone (pantone) in corel draw 11, so everything was consistant! i sent the file after preparing it the guy called from the printer press and he just threw it on me!! 'we do not do corel products" ... so he asked me if i can export the file to PDF and it was ok for me, so i am stuck, coz the PDF goes nuts, i have been working on it since this morning and the output is bad! the images come either in grayscale or they do not come up at all!!! if they come up, they will be recoginzed as black in the color seperation!

i need to get this out by today, any ideas?

note: i decided this is the last time i use corel products anymore! i will switch to the adobe family, more effecient! do not you think?

why not export it as a EPS and then bring it into illustrator, then just sent them the illustrator file?
i wouldn't send a pdf, those are just like overcompressed jpegs (unless you set the output quality to the max, but that increases the file size beyond belief..)

No I don't...

You should have checked what the printer accepted first!

Corel has adequate tools to covert to Illustrator,Photoshop, PDF, EPS etc- there's no reason for you to defect at all if you know what you're doing.

Finding out what file type the printer accepts is one of the first things a designer should do when starting a job! That's fair advice...

And my reply was a response to the last part of paiduema's post - I wasn't pretending to offer advice on the first part.

So, what's your problem?

Your post was of no help. We are very proud of what a nice resource this fourm is to new and seasoned designers alike. Your comment was not only NOT helpful but it could have been taken as rude. Suggesting that one might want to check the specs of a printer before they do the work is always a good idea. But you pointing out the obvious is of no help here.

maby you could drop the attitude and try to help this person out...

Well dudes, thanx a million for the tips, i saved myself of going to PDF so i exported the corel Draw 11 file as EPS files, and recompiled them in Indesign CS so i had my file again but in Adobe family which is the Industry Standard!
The problem was that i had my catalogue in all one color (inner pages in Pantone), so when i exported to EPS the options did not include anything on maintaining the spot colors, it maintained the spot color of any curve but no images!! i believe that it is because the duotone/monotone images in Corel Draw go on 8-bit mode! anyway, i took out all the images from my corel file and then i exported the EPS file, then in Indesign, i placed my images again and "dragged and dropped" my spot on them!

I have other three catalogues! still in CDR, shouting to get into Indesign, the other printer which prints Corel is charging me a fortune, so i am still going with my printer press that is cheaper and better in quality.

I searched the internet in vain!
someone said i can find the option of maintaining the spot colors of images when exporting to EPS, but it is not there.

So my two suggestions are:
1- i need to export my images with the EPS file, still in their Spot color, or,
2- I can export a whole grayscale EPS and let the Printer press do the spot thing. in the export option, when i checked export to grayscale header, it did not do anything!

SOS! Really, SOS!

This is my last resort, and i swore to god i will never use corel! as long as the Adobe family is treating me in a nicer way!
