Hey all. Been too long!
Darci and I have finally settled down in Norman.
Took 5 days to get here and ten days for the moving van. So we were Jeff Foxworthy-ing it for a few days. Lawn chairs and tv trays in the living room and a borrowed bed and tv. That was our furniture for a bit.

And the night that we left Spokane, the printing firm I'm working for got hit by 3 tornadoes!! Pretty much wiped out the bindery. But not prepress or the pressroom. Heritage Press is HUGE.

And now they can call a halt to this tornado crap.

I'll be in and out - not nearly as much as before.

Good to be back in the group!

Good Lord, Budafist, you've been doing some posting!!

The move wasn't bad, but I'm in a new position, not exactly prepress. They have me doing estimating and the prepress experience is a big advantage. Plus I got days instead of swing shift! Although the 70 minute commute thru Oklahoma City each day is a bear, I guess I'm happy.

Hey Rick! Glad to hear from you. Sounds like its gonna be a bit of an adjustment with the tornadoes and all eh?

Well, good to have you back. I've made my own come back as well. Kinda dissapeared while the Warriors made their playoff run, but it's over now, so here I am again :)

Glad to hear you're settling in Rick! Moving sure can be a bitch. I had to move 4 times within 6 years, I got really good at it, but boy did I get sick of it.

Rick, it's great hearing from you, I'm really sorry you won't be around as much, I'm hoping that's just a wacky notion you have and not an actual reality. With the careful allocation of time, it's possible to be on GDF as much as you used to be, you just got to get your priorities in order.

Best of luck! I hope we'll see you again on here soon, once you're more settled in. :)

Rick, glad to hear you made it down there! Hopefully the prepress area is
underground. 3 twisters??!! Hope the ghosts stayed behind, unless you
wanted them to follow you.

Hey Rick!

Holy crap - 3 tornadoes? And in Spokane no less. Are they rare for that area?

Glad you & Darci are all settled. That's one long commute with gas as high as it is getting. Does OKC have a rideshare program?

OK. I misinterpreted. You should get one of those Smart cars. Saw them on the news last night - they're finally making them available in the US.

rickself
05-23-2007, 07:17 PM
Then I'd be driving like 50% of the rest of 'em!

Takes me 70 minutes if I take the Interstate and on the way home, I take back roads and stretch the drive out a bit...wind down.

If it was a smart car, it would never leave the garage!

Is Oklahoma OK or what?

I would imagine that the sweet smell of wavin' wheat makes up for the wind sweeping down the plain, doesn't it?

Gack! Well, so far you haven't mentioned ghosts so I think that's a good thing.

Have you been too busy settling in, or has there been time to see your family, the whole reason you moved out there?

welcome to Oklahoma! which press are you working for? there are only a few major players in the OKC area.

rickself

GACK is right, Urst...specially when you get the skunk, followed by the manure smell and then ANOTHER skunk! Even 60mph won't clear that from your head fast enough! Our daughter has been here every day helping any way she can. Once the moving van left, Darci had the house put together in 2 days. Then there was me...took a week for me to get my office put together.

And Matt, I'm at Heritage Press in El Reno...95 full time employees, 2 shifts. 3 separate buildings. Big place, great people. We do all the printing for Sonic and Tony Roma and Sizzler. Pretty cool. Thanks for the welcome! Sposed to be more nasty weather today through the weekend. I guess some areas in the panhandle had golf ball sized hail last night.

And NO GHOSTS! I pity the people that moved into the old house in Spokane.

We don't have skunks in NZ. They do look pretty cute though...don't they?

Had a skunk waddle up my driveway the other day. Cute but stinky!
Hey Rick, estimating now, has your head hit the keyboards yet from a lack of prepress excitement? Is there a salesman on the rise?:)

Don't say never, Rick. That's a pretty large company. If you don't have to cold call and the accounts are handed over to you as a test drive and you have a CSR and a company car and the clients like you, you'll make more money than you ever did in printing!!! And you may reduce stress from having to produce every second of the day. Don't count it out.

Good advice, Jim. I'll keep an open mind.
It's strange - big company in a small town. So many friendly people to work with. Nearly the whole town turned out after the tornado to help in one form or another. Ya just don't get that in large metro areas.

jimking

Large towns are money machines. Small towns are peoples' homes.
