Hi Guys,

I have an issue here. This is a long story but we have a client in Korea (print Shop) that only accepts files in QuarkXpress 3.3 (Korean version).
We just purchased that version. Do you guys know if 3.3 in Korean runs under a Power Mac G5 with MAC OS 9.2?

Is it not working in Classic mode?

Yikes!

I found this (http://www.quark.com/service/desktop/support/techinfo/view.jsp?faq_id=211), which was pretty vague. I would think it could run under Mac OS 9.2 ... but you wouldn't know until you tried it.

I am asking because we need to buy a MAC for that specific client, I just want to make sure that I am not going to buy a computer that wouldn't work with that version and I am also trying to buy the newer computer possible, I don't want to buy a computer for that specific client only I want to use it for other projects too.
Your information is very helpful though Craig. Thanks.

We keep an old iMac G3 just for Quark 4 to run it in native OS rather than Classic. There's still a few holdouts out there. LOL! You might have to do the same depending on how well Quark 3 behaves when trying to print layouts through X. Though I suppose you could do PDFs...
Can you still find ATM so your fonts aren't jaggy on screen?

Don't quote me on this but I think the MMD G4's or maybe early G5's were the last to ship dual boot with OS9.

ATM is still available :D

No G5's are dual boot.
And half of the MMD G4's don't either. Which half is important to figure out... :)

The best dual booter would probably be a G4 Quicksilver. Solid Tower unit.

What do you think is the best MAC to run Quark 3.3?

I meant for in-house prints.
I would definitely go for something that dual boots. Just to be safe. You should be able to pick something up for a couple hundred bucks. You won't be able to do much else with it though sorry to say. I have a dual bootty 466 single that runs on Panther very well but is only being used as a server and I have one of the last Mirror Door dual 1-gig, dual booties that I use for homework but haven't dared load CS3 onto it. It maxes at 2gig of ram. CS3 and Tiger are both RamPigs and HardDriveHogs. Oh what I wouldn't give for a slimmed down OSX that just does WORK. <sigh>

I'd be a little concerned about the 68k processor spec but it also lists PowerPC. I remember running 3.3 on a Quadra and on one of the early beige box PowerMacs (a 630 or something like that). So maybe a G4 PowerMac will be ok. You may want to check into that more.

The source for info on old Macs: http://lowendmac.com/ppc/index.shtml

I can't help you as to whether Quark 3 runs in Mac OS 9.2 (though I'd guess it would...), but if you want to find if an old Mac can boot classic or not, Low End Mac's the place to check.
