after 7 years in a job which I enjoy doing - just not the people I do it for, i've applied for another position at another company here in Norwich.
On friday they sent through an 'application pack' and, after reading through the 'applicants should have key skills in blah, blah and blah' and 'must be able to do blah and blah' (namely design skills and be proficient in Quark) I felt, for the first time in ages, that "hey, I can actually do this"
it's a sub editor on our (rather large) local newspaper.
If I haven't heard by friday 1st June then I've not got it....

I've got only a tiny bit of good luck to spare, and a good bit of some luck that means well but is inherently bad. If you're strapped, I even have some luck that is safely sealed in a container way back in the bottom shelf of the fridge. You can't take that away any time.

well, I've rubbed buda's belly (so to speak), pressed Virgo's lucky clover to my bosom and sneaked a little luck from the back of broacher's fridge (and also copied the other messages of luck onto little post-it notes and stuck them around the house) - there's not a lot more I can do. Either I get a letter tomorrow inviting me for an interview.... or I don't.
thanks to everyone
mind you, if I get the interview then the hard work really begins - I HATE interviews!!!

just wanted to say thanks to all of you who wished me luck. I did not hear back from the company... so I'm presuming that I've not been selected for the interview stage.
So, earlier this week I sent this:
I recently applied for the position of Sub Editor. I realise that the application pack you sent through states that the first of June was the date by which we would have heard (or not heard - as the case may be), but we have a particularly unreliable postal service here in Cantley and I was wondering whether you had, in fact, sent out the reponses to the application forms. I am hoping that the quality and quantity of applicants is such that a decision has not yet been reached - or that my letter is wedged under the hot and probably very sweaty seat of the van my Postman drives. He's a friendly enough person but I suspect that if I pester him one more time to double check his postbag, he may well start to hide my mail in the hedgerows around the village.
If, on the other hand, you've sent out all the letters and I just didn't 'cut the mustard', I was wondering whether you would be in a position to give some guidance as to where I went wrong. Was I under-qualified? Was my application form too long or too short? Any information you could provide would hopefully assist me with my next application.
With kind regards
I didn't get a reply to this email either. I realise humour is a subjective thing sometimes - so was this perhaps a little too much? Perhaps their silence is speaking volumes and they're trying really hard to tell me something!
Maybe I should have just phoned them up and got a straight answer.
