Creating a 16x12 feet banner... help

There's gotta be something I am not doing right, I created the file at 150ppi, put a background image, and it already weight 2gigs!

How am I suppose to do this?

scale it to 19.2x14.4" @ 1000 dpi, which should give you 100 dpi at print, which is fine for large format.
