OK I have a issue... ive been working to create an online portfolio, the online problem is that i cannot think of a good Domain Name or find a good host to support my site. I was thinking about Media Temple but they are pretty pricey, 20++ a month, and all the good domain names are taken. My name is Ryan Mann, rmann.com, ryanmann.com, rmdesign, all taken and more.

Please help. Thanks.

$20 per month is pricey. I don't really understand why hosting would be so different in pricing (unless they are offering totally different specs), but the way I chose was a local company with tech support at the best price I could find. I pay about $80NZ or $50US(approx) per year for domain and url combined.

If all the good domain names are taken, you'll just have to be a bit more creative in your name. Also, have a look at other things aside from dot com. They might still be available.

Per Go Daddy:

RYANMANN.NET is available!

Go to www.godaddy.com (http://www.godaddy.com)

There are very reasonable and offer many different plans and give 24 hours support. They have also personally called me a couple times since I signed up a couple months ago to help me get started. They dont call enough to bug me, just enough to impress me with their service.

I pay about $8.00 a month which is the mis sized package.

Ryan Mann... That's a cool name. :D

I provide affordable and reliable webhosting, with discounts available for creatives. You can PM me, or contact me here (http://mediamainline.com/contact.htm). I will be upgrading my services soon, to offer even better packages.

As the previous two posters alluded to, you should not be paying more than about US$5.00 to US$8.00 a month, just to host a website (Buda pays about $5 USD, when converted). $20/mo or more packages are only needed for large file transfers.

Hi Ryan,

One thing to think about is whether you actually want to use your name. I knew wheni started that I did NOT want to use my name. for the reason if I ever sold or had to transfer the company (which DID happen with me) you will have to go through hoops trying to change names, etc again.

Just a thought.

I've never used Godaddy but I have heard bad things about people who do use them. Some people have had charges added without consent and worse is when they take your site away and then park it. Just passing along what I've heard.

I used 1and1.com for hosting for a while. They were inexpensive and pretty reliable. It was sort of a pain when I cancelled my contract though.

yeah, Morea I did too. I only used them because it was free for the first two years... hence I don't have carterartist.com anymore.
