Hi Everyone!

I am a graphic design student at the University of Missouri - Columbia. I am from McKinney, TX (north of Dallas). I originally came to Mizzou for Magazine Journalism - given that this is the number one journalism school in the nation (according to some statistics). After taking a few journalism classes I decided it wasn't what I was looking for. Graphic Design is much more me and I am loving my classes.

I joined GDF to supplement my learning and to get a few other perspectives (teachers can be very narrow minded). I also hope to learn things about the 'real world' relating to graphic design - things you can't learn in a classroom.

Any suggestions on classes I should take along with my Graphic Design sequence?

It's great that you are looking to extend yourself further than what you design course offers. What exactly is it that you are interested in doing after your studies?

Hopefully designing for a magazine or an ad agency. And then after I start a family I think I will switch to mainly freelance work.

If you are interested in publication, you can do extra classes or research into layout and typography - depending on how good your course is on teaching those things of course.

I think that most designers could benefit from some crosstraining in marketing and advertising, as well as a copywriting class or two.
