BlueHost.com has been great and they have an easy cpanel backend admin area. I think they're $7/month, but their support has been really good, and the domain registration is free, too.

Cpanel - Control Panel.

Basically it allow you to arrange your webhosting through an online administration panel. Click what you want to do and it's done. Email, ftp users, etc.

Also commonly installed with Fantasico which will "nearly" auto install alot of common applications. However, you'll still need to update the installs with security patches /upgrades as they come out.

is Cpanel free to use? So basically you are bypassing your ISP? I typically cal l them, let em know what I am doing/trying to do and they either ok it and allow it to run or offer a solution from their end. Is this correct?

How much space are you looking for?

dyers78 Cpanel is online and is provided by whatever hosting you chose. Not all have it, but many do. It's not a program that you download. It's merely filling out forms and clicking buttons much like you did when you joined here.

Dreamhost is another one that my admin recommends for those that don't need dedicated hosting.

godaddy.com is pretty good.

I disagree.

Stay away from GoDaddy (http://www.katgal.com/2007/05/godaddy-sucks.html) if you care about customer service. They don't give a d*mn about their clients. (Read my recent blog rant (http://www.katgal.com/2007/05/godaddy-sucks.html) on GoDaddy.)

I use Hostgator (http://secure.hostgator.com/cgi-bin/affiliates/clickthru.cgi?id=polish-boroski) and I would highly recommend them. $6.95 a month and you get more of everything than you'll ever need. They use cpanel.

I used to use Total Choice Hosting (http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/) (ironically a GoDaddy reseller) and they've got the best customer service I've ever seen. Their account interface is quite confusing, however. Account interface is where you handle billing, dns, etc. But, you can always just email support and they usually get back to you within 20-30 minutes. Even in the middle of the night. They have packages starting at $5 and they do use cpanel.
