i thought this would be a good thread to share how you give your work area personality...
so, what are the things in your office that make it 'your office'?
my office is kind of bare right now (well except fora ton ofjunk that clients bring in).all i have in my office is a Cat In The Hat Figure thing, and a few simpsons charature faces cut out and taped around my monitor.... but tonight i was planning on picking up a lava lamp and some sort of ambient lighting fixture....

i really need to do something with my office, right now I have a bunch of my artwork up on the walls, a TON of clients junk laying around in shelves, no fun stuff whatsoever (games, cartoons, squeky toys, action figures...etc.) Oh yeah and I have no windows, and its totally dark in my office (except a desk lamp that I only turn on to run my solar powered calculator), so yeah I need some cool stuff, I have a lava lamp, but the bulb burnt out yrs ago and I never figured out where to get another one.

Human skulls, dried monkeys, fossils, 200 year old books and manuscripts, maps of ancient briton, english swords, whiskey and victorian chairs in front of the fireplace.
Okay - that's half fact, half wish list : ) Madora found me a dried monkey but I never GOT it.
My 'work' workspace has nothing of a personal nature about it whatsoever. (I guess that show you what I think of my job) My home office has multitudes of crap on every flat surface. Including a bunch of Buddas, a big plastic plant, a globe and a hundred or so knives. (I'm a collector)

Glad you clarified that on the knives there Kool. /emoticons/shocked.gif
My work office wall space is covered with every imaginable thing you can print on or cut out of. Lots of printed samples, fabric swatches, metal letters, fab letters, boards, metals, plastics in all colors and thicknesses, chains of colored/clear acrylic, foam and various types of fasteners (but no antigrav devices). Lots of parts books on the bookshelves (when I'm not reading GDF at lunch I have the McMaster Carr or POP). It's a very 'colorful' place.
But NO toys. What I've got keeps the PM's and Salesmen hanging around far to long looking for cool crap to show their customers without giving them something to actually play with. Hard to concentrate when the sale is going down.
At home, very earthy and odd. Besides the usual desk and drafting table there is an assortment of skulls, sharp antique tools (I'm a collector too /emoticons/icon_wink.gif), odd little sculptures, some of my old artwork, a couple of musical instruments and a dried alligator head. Seriously.
Oh, the lava lamp is upstairs in the den. It actually still kinda works.

The ice cream patterned wallpaper was already up, so there isn't much I can do.

My 'personal touch' must be the messes I make. My home office is in a very small 100 sq. ft. loft in our log home - which could be very pleasant if I hadn't tried to cram so much electronic junk into such a small space (two computers, two big monitors, three printers and a scanner all of which have to have something to sit on which is supplied by a big, old, light green metal desk and an 8 ft. long table). And then I'm a 'paper piler' so there are a couple stacks of paper from 6 months worth of trial and error of things that I've worked on. Maybe 'Trading Spaces' would be willing to take on the challenge...anyone want to trade spaces and let me redecorate your office? I'll let you redecorate mine!
If it wasn't for the last minute nothing would ever get done.

Oh and I have a cork board thingy that has all kinda crazy typos and classified ads from the competition papers in my area and some art work! I think that about covers it! Oh yeah...and those sticky notes that are all over my monitor and CPU so I don't forget to call so and so and pull page blah blah blah etc!! haha!

Right now, I'm in a temporary situation and don't have much on an office. What I have, I have scrounged together in the last 3 months. This weekend I aquired an office desk, a heavy duty folding table, a task chair and a couple small cabinets from the same lady that I got the G3 from. I helped her move out of an office. When I was at American Greetings I was known as the car guy. I had an extensive collection of Hot Wheels and other small metal cars, all hot rod oriented. There was also a shelf of 25th scale plastic model cars I had built. Also had a shelf that was all natural objects like a small partially decayed but preserved log, some stones and water-smoothed bricks from Lake Erie. Of course there was also samples of mine and other people's lettering.

The 'Lettering Guy' says: 'It's not only what you say, but how well you say it.'
Paper, yes paper every where. Folders with internet articles printed out. Comps of work in other folders. Competitors work in another folders. Did I mention I have a few folders laying around?
A Lucent Phone Black housing. A very cool cord detangler I got because I was making a mess with out it.
Across my desk I have books software boxes Anonther Mac and a PC. Then a archive library of older work which has to be updated and redone.
I keep a box of cereal in next to the Mac (right now I have Cinnamon toast crunch).
At home I also have papers everywhere but my wife keeps the place alot more orgazined then I do. I have the Mac in my daughters room so across from me is a bunch of barbies and babies for inpirational use. I also have no windows at home I live in a freaking basement!

LOL @ benjo - sounds like my kind of office - except for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch :)

Let's see. I have a desktop shelf that has the Clone Wars Cartoon figures on it. Also the Playskool Millenium Falcon and the X-Wing (they are so neat looking). Over looking my phone is the 18' Michael Myers figure from Halloween. I also have a poster of Homer Simpson on my wall. I have to bring in some more stuff though.

I have my photographs and drawings up in my office... and lots of toys. No one ever comes back here to visit me so I have to entertain myself.
I have an RC car, a nerf basketball hoop, a few stress ball-type things and about 20 different wind up toys (the cheapo plastic kind).
