hi.

i remember in my flash class from my graphic design major, the teacher had us design our website at 720 x 480. i was wondering what was the next size up? if there is any industry standards? nothing too much bigger from that size.

thank u.

There aren't really standard sizes for websites - monitors come in different sizes, running at different resolutions and you just have to make sure it'll work in all of them.

720 x 480 was chosen because it's will fit conveniently in a maximised browser window on a screen running 800 x 600, which is the smallest size you're likely to have your content displayed on.

You can probably get away with going a bit bigger these days, as there will be very few screens running less than 1024 x 768. Just remember, though, there are still a few screens out there that will be running 800 x 600, and those people will have trouble viewing your site.

I always design with 1024x768 in mind.

It's now the most common, so with browser heading space (which varies) and other things, you should probably design somewhere around 900x500. The more crap people carry at the top of their browser also affects the size you should design at. :D
