There was once a famous Designer that said something to the effect of "My most difficult client is myself". This couldn't be truer...
I've never posted any of my work in "The Showcase" before. I guess I've always been too busy. However, the logo that I'm currently working on will mark my Wedding, which will take place in April of 2008. Of course, that means I need to hustle with Save the Date postcards, Invites, among other visual necessities. Tonight, I've finally reached a solution that both my fiancée and I can agree upon. After cleaning everything up though, I'm having second thoughts. This always happens every time I design something for myself. I get paranoid. This logo will mark my Wedding and it will make in impression on me for years! It better communicate and it better do a good job at communicating. I've decided to post these here to get some professional advice. What do you guys think?
We are having a simple Wedding. Simple decorations, soft simple colors, and simple pricing. Therefore, the logo must represent "simple". During my design work, I tried to keep my solutions as clean as possible. First, I began to play around with our initials, L & J (I'm Jon and she's Laura). This seemed a bit clique, but here's what I came up with... (see first attachment)
The first was dismissed as looking too much like the Nintendo Wii logo. The second was considered too abstract. The third looked too much like the Pi sign. After many more failed experiments with initials, I decided to move on to strict typographic solutions. After some serious thought, I figured that imagery might not work with the theme of our Wedding. Typography would be a more valid solution. One of the first solutions I came up with was the 2nd attachment.
This was the mark we both agreed upon. Priori Sans has always been one of my favorite typefaces; however, I use it with restraint. Its simplicity, as well as its serious, yet elegant tone echoed the theme of our Wedding. At first, I became a bit nervous about the "N/L" ligature, which connects our names, but then it began to grow on me. Colors (which will match the ceremony's colors) will later be incorporated. Laura loves it, but I need reassurance and guidance. I taped it on my bedroom wall so that when I wake up in the morning, I can get a fresh look at it.
Can I have some thoughts on this design? Am I out of my mind or am I on to something?
Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
