I stumbled on your site while looking for advice on how to come up with a logo for my small pet sitting business that can be used on business cards, t-shirts, banners, car decals, etc. I still have a lot of reading to do, and I understand you have rules for what is and isn't allowed for me to ask so I'm not ready to ask any questions yet! :D
I've been on other vbulletin forums (even moderated one of 100,000+ members) but as far as graphic design, I'm a complete newbie so excuse me for my ignorance! I don't want to spend a fortune paying someone to do this for me if I can do it myself, I simply don't have the money! I have a copy of Corel Paint Shop Pro XI (which is not pirated btw, I paid for it!) but I'm a complete idiot as to what I can potentially do with it.
So, thanks for these forums! I'll do some reading and maybe answer my own questions eventually... unless there is some nice helpful person out there who is willing to give me some advice.

Welcome to the forum.
Doing your own logo?
You might find that PaintShop Pro isn't quite the right progam to be using to do that. You want to create a vector logo and PSP is Corel's version of Photoshop, a raster program.

You might be better off finding a graphic designer in your area that has pets and offer to barter your services for theirs (though I'm sure now there are some on here that are going to think making that kind of suggestion devalues their profession ;)). I'm all for bartering if the services are equal.
There is more to a logo than you think.

I think this is an excellent suggestion. Barter is a great way to get services that you might not normally be able to afford, and yet still give back in like kind.

I've done work for barter before, it benefits everyone involved (as PD says) as long as services are equal.

Welcome. You may find there are plenty of pet lovers on this board so there might be a designer in your area willing to trade.

Welcome to GDF.
Welcome, fellow pet lover!
Show's how little I know, I didn't even know that PSP was bought out by Corel. I thought it was still Jasc.
FYI, Corel Draw is the vector program available by the same company. Get that and learn to use it, before you attempt a logo (or use Adobe Illustrator).
