I used Corel PhotoPaint 9 at home to create several .CPT files. I then transferred the files to my laptop. Unfortunately, too late I realized that my laptop only has Photopaint 8 installed and will not open these files. I am now travelling; I will be away from home for a couple weeks, and need to at least view these files.

I have been looking for a freeware program to open the CPT files and/or convert to JPG format. I cannot find anything so far. Some programs like Irfanview and PictView say they support a CPT extension, but in fact only support PhotoPaint 6 format, and will not open these files.

Anyone know of a freeware program that will do this? Or some alternative so I can see these files on my laptop?

Thank you!

Do you have any other programs with you besides Photopaint?
Something you can place the images into?
Or call around to printshops in the area you are visiting and ask what it would cost to convert (if THEY have the software). A full service Service Bureau may be able to help you.

Or someone may come along shortly with a Freeware solution.
Good luck!

I'm not sure what you are asking here. I don't have any programs which will open the Photopaint 9 files - if I did, I wouldn't have a problem. If I can get the images converted to something like JPG, my Photopaint 8 will open them. I also have Irfanview and Microsoft Photo Editor (neither handles a CPT 9 file but both would open a JPG file).

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

By place, I don't mean Open.
More like create a blank file and Insert or Place the image. I'm guessing not many programs will accept cpt files in that manner either but it was worth a shot.
