Why the heck would they do that?
Do you suppose that Corel Graphics Suite is going to become a lot more popular among printers now? :}

read the article, thats actually pretty important, fedex kinkos might experience a large amount of growth from this. Of course, it'll be funny how many people will try and be sneaky and print proofs. Then Fedex can deal with all the angry customers wanting to know why the quality of their print is crap or why PROOF is in bold across the top of the page. Wish I could tap into their cusotmer service to see those calls.
BTW many fedex employees are wicked dumb, tried getting a 4 part NCR form, took ten minutes to explain how to drill it, glue it, and not resize it to page.

Now that just makes me sad.
I haven't actually worked with Kinko's before, but I've heard the horror stories, and I've dealt with similar situations, myself. It's funny how I've had to give instructions to the people working the printers on how to do it correctly (another "fit to page" dweeb) when the very same printers wouldn't hire me when I was looking for work. God, I love it.
But hey, at least we don't have to use Kinko's.

Quite honestly, I have been unable to find this 'button' but I didn't start with version 8.1. Maybe it is only on 'new ships'.
There there, Typo, they just made your job easier. No need for Kleenex®

cant stand kinkos. No kidding, last time I was in there, the guy behind the counter opened my pdf and said, "It doesnt fit on the page. Is this how you want it printed?" I looked at the screen and pointed out that he had it zoomed into 300% and would have to zoom out to see my whole project. After I showed him how to zoom out, he asked how many colors I wanted it. I told him... it's black and white (like on the screen...) and he said "OK, so two colors?"
me: "No, just one"
him:"You said black and white."
me:"yes. I dont expect you to print the white"
He ended up calling his supervisor because he thought I was trying to cheat him.

I downloaded the new reader at home a couple weeks ago and I noticed that. It's ass.
We don't have Kinkos in New Zealand and most people here wouldn't have even heard of Kinkos so that'll just be totally confusing to non-Kinkos Adobe users around here. If you don't have Kinkos in your country, do you have to wait a week or for delivery from the States and foot the delivery cost?

its just a button guys, calm down. take a breath and welcome the idea that this will not hurt the printing business. people that will click on this button would have gone to kinkos anyway...this just makes the process easier for them.

Fedex thinks that printing is like mopping a floor, anyone can swing it. Hiring at a low wage is the norm. So, if you've got experience with computer graphics and printing etc. don't bother applying cause they aint going to hire you unless you know next to nothing about the trade.

lol, i guess we better stop sending Proofs as PDF to our clients to eliminate the inevitable.

Besides, how hard is it for your clients to email you or upload a file to your ftp. It's
not as though the FedEx/Kinko's button teleports you to one of their
production centers, face to face with a pro who can really help you.

Doesn't bother me. I see it as someone who has made a PDF from a Microsoft application and opens it in Reader and then wants to print to Kinko's because "they are the cheapest guys in town" and will "print it right"
Kinko's is used to dealing with that type of customer and i think that is who Adobe has in mind. Plus, many other companies have teamed up with PhotoPrinters/Copy centers/etc. to help their product along.
Plus, anyone using this button will probably be a pain in the ass anyway. It is really a helpful button to the printing industry as many idiot headaches will dissappear and land into the ever-knowledgable world of Kinko's.

As a printer it just sort of steams me that Adobe would align with Kinko's. I'm not worried about my clients going there and BJMRGTIVR6 does have an excellent point. And I can see putting such a button on the universally downloaded Reader,
But...
As a designer (well, occasionally anyway) I find it kind of insulting and even a little disturbing that Adobe puts a Kinko's button on their Pro version of Acrobat. Is that the quality of print they think ALL of their users want, need, expect, and admire???? I mean, I realize the steady, slow, but inevitable slide to "I want it now and damn the quality" is happening but seriously, why rush it?
I wonder how all those Registered Adobe Print Service providers that paid their money feel about the representation they are getting?
How 'bout a button to that database instead?
And not that this will EVER happen but just consider this; Adobe bought Macromedia and Corel products are only for PC. If Adobe told you tomorrow that, for some bizarre and insane reason, they were selling out to Kinko's and the software was going to become vendor specific, what would you do? LOL! Just curious...:D

all boils down to money , and yes adobe have done a lof for the printing community.
BUT they would not be where they are now if we did not buy their products over the years
personally ive always considered adobe ham shankers

yes pd what there doing to some products in macramedia range is a pain the arse

Phew!
Adobe should extricate itself from the agreement and remove the FedEx Kinko’s logo and embedded link from Adobe software in a timely manner. With regards to the August 1 date put forth by Adobe, Truncale and Johnson state in their letter that, “During that period, we will continue to examine any and all options open to us—legal and otherwise—should Adobe’s solution fall short of our expectations.”
Does that mean it is now gone? It's August 2 here - August 1 for the rest of you.

I think the mistake Adobe made was in not remembering that Acrobat spans two entirely different sets of users: the GD crowd, like those assembled here, and the Powerpoint/Office document crowd. They put in a handy button for the Office crowd (what GD would use Kinko's anyway?), and really ticked off the print providers who service designers. It's ironic, because the people who should have been complaining were Office Depot, Staples, and the other instant-print-and-copy stores.
