I am in need of putting together a site for myself and would like an idea on whether a strong and effective "static"(?) site is going to work as well as something with Flash elements. I ask as I have absolutely no idea where to start and because the thought of trying to get my head around Flash is a bit daunting.
Cheers in advance.

I think you may have opened a can of worms there, rehab.
keep it simple and easy to navigate and it will be fine.

I agree with tz, too. Plus, a simple, static site will do better in the search engines.

It looks to me as if you have already made your mind up, and want reassurances. I say this because you go out of your way to adjecti-fy the static site ("strong and effective") and kind dull down the flash site ("something with flash elements"). If your static site is "strong and effective", it will work. Work with what you are comfortable with. In the end, the goal is to have a "strong and effective" website, so which media you use to reach that goal is irrelevant. Now if you are asking, which is better: a strong and effective static page or a strong and effective flash page? Then you will get a variety of answers, just like asking who was better: Elvis or the Beatles?

Yeah! it's the Beatles.^^
Thanks people for your help, and yes, a little reassurance goes a long way.
