I have seen the effect a couple of times.. on Television Commericals I believe.. It is sort of a "Sparkle,Glitter,Shimmering" Magic Wand sort of effect.. It looks like there are "Sparkle Squints" that are varied color coming off of what ever it is they use it on.. Terriable explaination I know.. I did the best I knew how to replicate in photoshop.. Any ideas suggestions etc.. Does anyone know what I am talkin' about? In my example they flair out far too much and are not bright enough..

here's a link on creating animated gifs with photoshop/image ready:

http://www.ehow.com/how_18384_create-animated-gif.html

after that, its a matter of getting the individual frames right. i haven't done anything like that before, so i'm not sure what the easiest way to go about doing it is...

I know how to do the animated .gif.. I don't know how to do the sparkle effect..

A google search yielded several options when I searched for "animated sparkles tutorial" such as this (http://www.glitterbank.com/tutorials.html).

Good luck.

that's a stupid tutorial..sorry but it is....looks like the crap you would see on myspace.

You can draw those stars using a tapered brush in photoshop...then, create a new layer for each "frame" and then resize and move as needed to achieve your effect....you can also use illustrator.

Anyways THIS is one of the better sites out there for photoshop tutorials..browse thru this and see if you come across something....uu can also do a search....

Here's a good tutorial called "painting with light (http://www.computerarts.co.uk/tutorials/2d__and__photoshop/painting_with_light)" - I believe it was posted/linked to by Morea.

You're right, it wasn't a great tutorial. The effect itself is probably also questionable.

The bottom line is that the OP could have searched for the tutorial themselves, or simply try their own methods to create the effect.

Always Google first.

I hear ya craig....but in all honesty, not everyone can be as resourceful as we are! :) Google - well yeah she's def. a good buddy of mine :P lol but, not everyone thinks like that....this person could be new to the design industry, new to finding things...People I know are ALWAYS asking meto find info about this or that online because I am good at it....not everyone is! :) So perhaps we can just KINDLY direct the OP that GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND and sometimes worth trying before posting....though some just are not good at choosing the right keywords...and that can get you nowhere sometimes! :P

My first post did kindly direct them. I wasn't sure of the quality of the effect they wanted to achieve. Based on the quality of the attached sparkle image, I assumed they needed something "myspace"-ish. Which I directed them to.

Also, if the OP was searching for something that was difficult to find I'd understand. I simply used words they used in their post, "sparkle", "photoshop" and "animated gif" ... and I added tutorial, because, well, that's indirectly what they needed.

yeah i understand your point craig, but that wasn't even close to what they were looking for - according to what I read in the first post....and my understanding....we each perceive things differently i suppose!

you mean like by posting it in the Welcome and Forum Rules (http://www.graphicdesignforum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13650)?

Search First! We welcome your questions and we have members here with expertise in all areas of the industry. There IS, however, a good chance that your question has been asked and answered before. (Note: "google" can be your friend!) Please take a minute and do a quick forum search before posting. Check out the "Resources" section, and our Frequently Discussed Topics thread, too. If you don't find what you're looking for then feel free to ask away!

I never read those, as I've been on the net long enough to the ettiqute...and it seems kinda like common sense to search before asking....I would assume that others also bypass the welcome and forum rules thread as well....my guess is the OP didn't look at that, or maybe she did search and didn't find what she was looking for! Again not everyone can be good at searching! LOL my dad for instance can never seem to find what he is looking for! Yet my mom, is a wiz and can usually find what she needs to.

if posting a question without searching first on a forum is gonna get me banned, than that just seems a bit overkill to me....Thats stupid imho.....now perhaps if someone were posting porn and spamming their asses off, then that makes more sense to me...I guess for me personally I've been on a bunch of different forums, and I don't do anything stupid and already know the ins/outs of a message board...just seems like common sense to me...i don't think hand holding is necessary...and I've never been banned from a board before...i know every board has rules and such, but i seriously doubt that MOST people read them prior to posting...who knows tho i've been here a while, lol so maybe I did read it back when i first signed up...who remembers!

If you're not professional enough to let me know when I got banned, then I've obviously joined the wrong forum. :)

ok ok lol well sometimes its hard to tell - esp. since a. its words on a screen, and 2. I don't know you guys well enough to be able to distinguish your humour! :) i'll try to come around more. I have been posting more than usual these days - and I've been enjoying the conversations thus far.

btw craig, love your avatar!

That's "netiquette", not forum rules first of all. People don't get banned for not searching. And you seem to imply that I was threatening you, which I wasn't.

To me, it just seems like common courtesy that when you register for a board you would respect the place enough to read over the (very brief, I might add) rules thread. Particularly if someone goes to the trouble of providing you a direct link to it.

I will never understand the logic involved when a new member pops by and starts telling long-term members how to behave on a forum. (I love the way that you followed your judgement - "that's stupid" - with "imho"... since it's clearly not a *humble* opinion at all.)

Craig was not being rude. Honestly, it's worth pointing out that a google and/or forum search should not be overlooked. People need to learn how to do their own research in order to be effective in this line of work, and they might as well start there as anywhere.

Hopefully the OP got their original sparkle question all sorted out ...

Oh, and thanks about the avatar .... there's a story behind it somewhere around here ... but I can't find it. MD or Morea, do you know where it is?

I am in agreement w/ your statement morea....maybe i've been a bit harsh on those thoughts...and I didn't mean to offend the GDF and it's rules and mod posts. BUT I've been on many boards..and some DO have long and lengthy written intros and rules, maybe not this one....so perhaps it's personally deterred me from reading those - i usually just wanna dive right in...to me thats a reference section I would go back and look at if I had done something wrong (since again, most boards have similar rules - like condo associations) But usually they all say basically the same thing. Gets a bit redundant if you ask me.

I def. think people need to learn to do their own research...I think that should be something discussed and taught in design school! I KNOW that it was something my professors didn't overlook to teach me when I was in college! The internet was so new then, but even then we were taught how to look around and we've gotten good at it. :) Thank goodness for google and search engines now though!

Not that it matters or anything... but I've been finding ask.com more helpful than google lately. Personally, I've started getting tired of all the hype around google. Meh. Choose what you want, just as long as you pancaking search first. : /

Ok.. back to the original question.

Amiart: I think your stars are just brushes on photoshop. You can use that, duplicate, contract, lighter brighter colour. Add small gaussian blur.

DesignVHL
07-20-2007, 07:18 PM
i was going to suggest that also...create a star as a ps brush...then you can change opacity, color, scatter, and size...
