So, what are your thoughts about entering graphic design annual competitions like GD USA, Creativity, ACI etc.
Since these competitions ask for works that have already been created and don't ask for you to create design specifically for the competitions these are ok. In fact entering and placing or winning one of them can be a great marketing tool. Jeff Fisher has written extensively on this subject but I can't seem to find the links at the moment. He will probably see this thread and post it himself.

also, the entry fees are pretty reasonable, if i remember right. good to know if you're on a budget like we are.

(oh wow, are we already gonna start this arguement again?)
The difference between these contests and the hotly debated ones is the fact that these contests are NOT about getting cheap work, it's more about an actual competition.

Such contests have become a primary marketing tool for my business. I regularly post a list of such opportunities on bLog-oMotives (http://blog-omotives.blogspot.com/2007/06/calls-for-entries-upcoming-design.html). I'm currently preparing an updated list.
