I have been trying to develop a logo for a moving company in vermont called action moving and i've hit a artistic block. Does anyone have any ideas to help me create something fresh. I appreciate any help.

We are professionals that make a living by selling our ideas. We can give you advice, but asking for ideas for free isn't fair. Post the ideas you have so far and we can crit them for you.
I see… a truck and some flowers perhaps a picture of Vermont.
sorry… thats all I got.

just brainstorm words and stuff, then do other things, take a walk, etc. let the ideas stew in your head. then do sketches, then ding! you'll get a good logo concept.
good luck! :)

Don't forget that you don't have to take the logo so literally. What is the name of the company for example? The logo doesn't need a picture of a truck. When you see a truck, you know it's a moving company. You don't need a logo of a truck on the truck right?
The name of the company also plays a big part in what the logo might look like. Example: Big Jo's Moving Company will have a different feel to National Express Movers.

Thanks for your responses, this is my first post anywhere ever. So far i've played with a ton of different fonts but nothing jumps out at me. I kind of like a rounded font that gives the font a sort of movement like action but as buda fist said I know that the company name doesn't have to be taken literally. i was pushing around the idea of having a vector box with the logo kind of stamped on it and using a stencil font. Or having the company name shoot out of the box. I'll post some of my sketches and ideas in a bit for you all to look at and give me some further feedback. Thanks for your help thus far.

A cardboard box with stencil font is a great concept for a moving company.

really…
Anyway, perhaps you could play with the concept of transferring objects. For example, a cannon transfers a ball or a gun transfers a bullet- just an example. Think of objects that transfer one thing from one place to another. That will both reinforce the name(action) and hint at what they do- move items from one place to another.
definition: transfer
an act of moving something or someone to another place
That is just one definition that I felt is most useful but, you can always go back and look at others to get some ideas. However, based on that definition you could begin by listing several objects that have a relationship to the definition- moving something from one place to another. A catapult is a fun idea I don't really think it is appropriate here but, at this stage you should just be writing down anything that comes to mind.
I would advise staying away from the box's and trucks for now. What I normally do is spend about a half an hour to an hour writing down my initial thoughts then stay away from those- directly. Since, they are top of mind things pretty much(what everyone else has already thought of)- and thats not what makes a memorable mark.
Just some advise.- look at all the other truck, box and lift logos out there. When you create a identity you want it to unique and its hard to be unique when the concept is the same as everything else out there.

what sort of an image is the company wanting to portray?
if they are going for high end quality perhaps a cardboard box wouldn't be the best image to use (i'm not picking on your idea buda but can you see where i'm coming from?), although if they are going for 'affordable' then it would suit really well...

There are no moving guys that I have seen that I would consider high end.
I'm thinking big guys that are building their weight at the same time as their muscles.
Transferring concepts are good too but it would need to be something not moving violently. Canons and guns are a bit violent. Showing movement is good but also a safe journey is important.

some are better than others... for example... these guys look more high end (reliable, careful, trust worthy) http://www.britannia-movers.co.uk/ than the company not far from our house called UKMovers (grubby white vans with UKMovers in red VAG font on the side)
something bubblewrapped perhaps would indicate 'care' for me and that would be a major selling point in my head but it doesn't sit 100% with 'action movers'

Action Movers
Action Man in a Hummer? ;)
I'm thinking of a Map Background with the word Action at the top and Movers at the bottom. The "o"s to be filled in, possibly red with a line connecting them (showing the route from A to B). Depending on the scale of the company the Map Background could be local or National.
Now I'm thinking I don't like that idea.
Now I'm thinking of just basic wording, some nice typography for it instead. I can't think what style I'd have at the moment though.
Now... Hmmm... SKETCH PAD!
... ... my brain hurts. :(

We have a couple of distinctive moving companies around here.
Gentle Giant has purple trucks with giant legs and feet in old work boots as big as their trucks.
And my favorite: Deathwish Piano Movers. Their T-shirts are too cool.
These two really stand out in a saturated area.

Deathwish Piano Movers.
They should look and act like Laurel and Hardy. :D
