I have no problem at work letting my creativity fly, but on my own time I have this weird fear of letting my work out there as I keep thinking my great original ideas will be stolen...
I've never felt this before but lately it's consuming me to the point that I don't wanna do anything...WTF!

To be honest! of late I appear to have lost all will to be creative, mainly due to the fact that clients do not have the ability to see the bigger picture and continuously go for the safe option, morons! Does anyone else have to produce multiple options for clients, knowing full well that you may as well just create the safe option and save yourself 45 minutes - beginning to wonder whether a return to driving a van would be more a fulfilling use of my days - at least when you deliver a piece of furniture, there is always that remote chance that the door will be answered by a bored housewife, with a whole new take on the idea of a bigger picture!!!

This is the opposite for me, I don't mind doing work I'm getting paid for whether it's at my real job or outside of it, my fear is if I work on my own art that comes from a much deeper place that the idea once out there will be stolen or lost, i really am fearful of coming up with something new and original only to find someone takes it from me once i publish it...lol...once i see myself typing that i feel i need to talk to a shrink :p

I'm usually less worried about people stealing my ideas as I am worried about thinking my ideas suck.

It's not called stealing...it's "influence" LOL. I can't think any designer doesn't grab something innovative and try to adapt it to his or her own work. Most every great idea we can think of has been done before somewhere at some time by someone.

Same here, lol.. the funny thing is that I am totally confident in my abilities and know i do good work...but sometimes it is nice to hear that and be reassured...which is why its nice when a client really praises how great a job you did in their work! THAT means so much.

THO There IS a difference between INFLUENCE and a BLATENT RIPOFF - you just cannot be afraid of that happening either way...or your work will never shine through! Just do your thing man, the truth of the matter is if its good and people like it, you'll make $ you deserve and be recognized for your talent....and THAT is something to be proud of.....fear only holds you back.
