I can grow a pretty respectable beard although it's mostly gray nowadays. My problem is that after 5 days or so the itchies and the pokeys always drive me back to the razor. I shampoo and condition it when I take my daily shower and this softens it up for a little while but then after a few hours it will start bugging me again. Any of you bearded GDFers have any advice on this. I'm blessed with the Kool family round head and a beard helps add a bit of angularnes to it. :)

i cant grow facial hair, it was a freak accident when I was a child that I would really not like to relive. also, all the hair on my head keeps falling off and sticking to my ass, its quite annoying

I can grow chops and a really thin gotee and stache (blonde doesn't help). Everything else inbetween just doesn't grow.

Had a gotee for a while got it to about an inch, it was really thin, looked bad... and maybe a little creepy.

So I am a no go :(

I have much the same problem as Kool - I've always wondered what I'd look like with a beard, but after about a week of not shaving it starts driving me crazy and I run for the razor.

Had a goatee for many a years now. Never had any issues with it itching as long as I kept it trimmed. My girl gripes about it more then I do, but I still swear she secretly likes it! :)

My bf grows a beard very easily. He's never decided to stay away from the razor for more than a few days though. Thank goodness. It's so scratchy!

Never tried or heard anyone do it, but what about leave in conditioner guys? :)

When you scratch your beard, people will think you are deep in contemplation and won't bother you. That or they will think you have lice, and not bother you. Either way you get some peace and quiet. Alas I cannot grow a beard or afford the drugs that would enable me to.

Sorry Kool. Never had that problem. My beard grows in so friggin fast I could shave twice a day. Probably grows right past the itchies in an hour or so. :D
Alas, it is gray now too.

I have had a goatee for about six or seven years now. I've had a full beard for brief periods, but it's too much maintenance.

My wife hates it when I shave my goatee off (which I do once in a while, just to start over). She says I look like a little kid when I do.

The last time I went clean-shaven (sometime last year), not one person said, "Hey, like the new look!" No, each and every person took one look and said, "When are you growing the beard back?" So I guess everyone prefers the goatee, but I still feel like I'm in a rut sometimes.

Aw, one of my mates off the physics degree was called wookie for the same reason. He shaved his beard off and cut his long hair in his final year to go on job interviews and he was super hot under all that fuzz as it turned out!

I can grow a full beard in about 2 weeks.

When I used to grow one, I would go for the unkempt "Jesus" beard, grow it out for 10-14 months.
The only trimming I'd do was to keep it somewhat tapered to the center, got to be about 5 inches long.

I've also grown goatees, and a few times favoured a "three musketeers /van Dyke" goatee, with pointy small 3 inch beard and handlebar moustache. Moustache wax rules.

I have always let the hair below my lower lip grow-some call it a soul patch-. I probably haven't shaved that area in 15 years.

That is a lot of ear wax (thats what guys with handlebar mustaches used to use).

It takes me from clean shave to a stage after stubble, about 8 days. I have to shave more often, but I'm too damn lazy (and I can only use the Mach 3 turbo blades & gel, the Electric razors leave razor burns), the razor blades are expensive.. So I shave once a week (every Sunday morning):p bugs my wife.. but *shrug* at 8.00 for a box of 4.. a week is pretty good (a blade lasts 2 shave sessions for me.)

i've had a soul patch for probably 12 years (also known as a womb broom ;) :D)
i also have a little stubble as without it, i look like i'm a 10 year old.
ufortunatley now i'm a few days of being 31, i'm also quite grey in the facial area.
I had a goatee for about 6 months at one point but I'm not allowed to grow a full beard tho. My girlfriend would beat me if i did. ;)

I have a Ginger Beard. And it rocks (roxxorz for the leets out there).

Seems to have a maximum grow length of about an inch though. Doesn't matter if I leave it for 2 weeks or 8 weeks, 1 inch is your lot.

I also like to play occasionally, I've done goatee, soul patch, mexican tash and a really odd creation for my mates Design Evening he had, I'll see if I can dig out a photo. All in the past 6 months.

LOL, um no. :p

BTW which version where you refering to, the shorter version or the longer? The shorter makes Brigham look more like Lincoln (but with a fatter head).

A friend of mine (from Ireland) did a reverse goatee (shave where the goatee would be, leave the rest, and let it grow), looked kind of funny.

I can't grow a beard too much, like Spug, about an inch or so for me.

I've let it grow till just over 3 months, and thats as far as it got. I hated it. I usually didn't let it grow past stubble, because it itches after the stub, even past the 3 months it itched.

Kool, you can always pull a Paul Teutul Sr (OCC - American Choppers) look:

I could grow a taliban beard before lunch, like Kool it's mostly grey now but I just can't stand the itching. I have had a mustache since I was about 16, my wife has never seen me without it and she keeps trying to get me to shave it off.

This doesn't have anything to do with beards, but it does have to do with hair. Has anyone seen that movie "Combover"? I was rolling the whole movie. It came on the Sundance channel about a month or so ago. They travel the country in search of the best combover!

I go through this several times every year - I usually go fully clean shaven 2 or 3 times, sticking with it for a month or two, then I'll grow the full beard out to see how it looks - after a month or so of that, I'll revert to my normal goateed state. I'm currently at day 14 of full beard mode from clean shaven - its itchin' a little - but that's what its s'posed to do! I just suck it up and deal with it - you wont catch me rubbing some greasy lotion on my mug - just like I'll never use one of those frilly bathtime body wash pom poms or whatever they're called.

If the itching really bothers you though, grab a pinchful of nosehairs and rip them out with your bare hands - you'll forget all about the itchy beard, I guarantee. And you'll get rid of the nosehairs, which are way more irritating than any beard hairs I've ever had. I'd rather have steel wire in my nostrils than nose hair, that crap has to be like 4 or 6 guage at least.

Logo-Mechanix
07-26-2007, 07:37 PM
What you have to do is get the nose hairs to grow so long they actually meet the beard and therefore resemble mustache. At that point no shaving or plucking of any kind is necessary.
