Incase anyone is interested, PBS' American Masters series is doing a portrait of John James Audubon tonight (at least my station) at 9pm.
As an added bonus, Judy Hyman (violinist of the Horseflies) did the score.(Cornfed thought you might be interested!!).
John James Audubon: Drawn from Nature (http://www.pbs.org/wnet/americanmasters/database/audubon_j.html)
I saw the promos for this, should be a great show.

Cornfed, I thought maybe you'd know the Horseflies or about them? They've played the Blue Heron Fest and other festivals (and the Kent State folk fest) in the area before. They are amazing. Sort of folky/psychedelic sounding.
They describe themselves as folk-rock American Gothic. Instruments include violin, banjo, uke, accordion, bass, guitar and drums.
Should make for a great score...I think she won a grammy for her music for this (which was also written by the Horseflies guitarist).

i was fishing at a local pond near my old house one summer day, and a blue heron flew out of a tree on the other side of the pond and swooped down accross the water toward me, i just watched it as it sailed right over my head with in just a few feet. The thing was massive and i felt the wind as it glided right past me. i felt like i couldve just reached up and touched it. One of the cooler moments of my life.

No, I hadn't heard of them! But I did check out their website and myspace and listened to some of their stuff! They sound pretty good! I'm gonna watch for the show tonite - it sounds like the score could be promising!
When I worked in framing back in my youth and college days, it seemed like I was always framing Audubons for people!

I didn't realize the condition in which Audubon's subjects were in when he (ie, no longer alive thanks to him). Kind of ironic that Audubon Society is a preservationist organization in light of how many birds he offed. I also didn't know his wife died destitue and sold off his prints and plates. She sold about 800 prints for $4000 in 1863! Interesting stuff.
The score was beautiful!
