Hi!

With the digital press, do full color jobs generally still cost more (like with offset) than one or 2 color jobs?

If I am creating a 2 color job to be printed at a digital press, would I still choose pantone colors or keep them CMYK?

Thank you in advance!

Jen :)

Most of the time a 'digital press' job won't cost more if it is 1-4 colors. but ask your printer if they charge more or less.

A digital press is nothing more than a glorified laser printer. It uses the same CMYK toner cartridges for every job so there should be no difference in price, but it might not be able to hit the PMS colors - It all depends if the PMS color can be duplicated in CMYK.

Do some digital presses take more than 4 colours?

Just wondering because we have a plotter that takes 7 cartridges (black, light black, cyan, light cyan, magenta, light magenta and yellow). I suppose it's for more accuracy of colour, but then I worry because our plotter is used to run out proofs to match to our press. Our press uses 4 colours only. That would mean that the plotter is more accurate than our press....sorry tangent...

I still have a hard time with the marketing campaigns that have brought about the
term "digital press." Most of them are network printers like MD mentioned. Most
of them build colors out of CMYK. However there are some specialized ones
that are outside of the general mold.

Thanks for breaking it down, MD & Doubting Thomas....it makes digital presses seem less intimidating!
