Hi everyone! I've been visiting the forum on and off for a while and thought I'd finally join in!
I'm a graphic designer in England, where I've been running my own company for a couple of years. Before that I worked as a designer for a marketing company.
Look forward to meeting you all! :)

lol virgo (http://whatscookingamerica.net/avacado.htm)!
Avocados got their name from the Spanish explorers. They couldn't pronounce the Aztec work for the fruit, know as ahuacatl, "testicle," because of its shape. The Spanish called the aguacate, leading to the guacamole we know today.

Spug's comment that avocados are bad for you.
In comparrison to other fruits they're pretty naff.
I'm a health food freak, I keep my total fat intake to less than 20g most days and the saturated intake I try to keep under 5g a day.
To be fair I've NEVER tried an Avocado, they may be really tasty. I'm thinking about trying them now as it turns out there is a dirty aspect to eating them. Virgo is a star. :D
urstwile
08-02-2007, 06:45 AM
Well, from what I've read, Spug, it's like most things with fats. Avocados do have a fair amount of good stuff in them, no, you'd probably not want to munch on them with the same abandon as say an apple or a pear, but they have zero cholesterol, and a healthy shot of Vitamin A and other cool things, plus a fairly large dose of protein, for a fruit.
I still consider them a vegetable, actually, even though I know, technically they're a fruit.
SpugNothuson
08-02-2007, 07:19 AM
Could you just munch on an Avocado? Or would it be like eating Turnip?
I always equate fruit based things with snack foods, but Avocado always appears to be a cooking ingredient.
The zero cholesterol is good, but the saturated fats would be aproblem for me anyway. All the males in our family suffer from High Cholesterol levels from birth so I've been on a low fat diet my entire life.
I didn't try chocolate till I was in my teens, its gross stuff!

Spug has never tried avocado!? That's funny to me. It's like this girl I know that has never tried a banana and now she's in her 20's she is keeping up the tradition just so she can be the girl that has never tried a banana. You could keep it up Spug and they will write it on your tombstone. "Here lies Spug. He never tried an avocado".
Spug, I don't equate avocado to a cooking ingredient because I never cook it. You can put it on toast, in sandwhiches (bacon and avocado sandwhich is real good), salads...If you must cook it, then mix it in at the end of a chicken pasta dish. Have you ever had guacamole?
Food is a really big deal to me (as you might have noticed) and I have never watched my fat intake before. I do however think that it is important to pay attention to what your body is telling you. Example, if I've been eating junk, my body says "Give me a salad for cryin' out loud!!!" and if I've been eating really healthy, that is the only time I crave KFC. Wouldn't it be awesome if you could be so in tune with what your body needed that you only ever ate according to cravings and feel terrific for it?
Example, if you actually could crave the exactly RDI (or at least for your body type/size) of iron, calcium, vitamin C and all the stuff I worry that I don't get enough of.

Note: Signature change. :)

chocolate pudding is probably too heavy for me to eat my way out of, i think i'd only be able to handle a vat of jello or something.

All we need to do is nudge that margarita machine a little to the left (look out Virgo!), and ta da! A margarita hot tub. Maybe they shouldn't be heated though. Just a whirlpool of slushy frothy margarita goodness.
DaB, I've got this round so you're good---enjoy your margarita! Salt or no salt?

Margaritas are very cold. Your avocados would shrink. ;)

Um, if that thing's plugged into an electrical outlet and you accidentally push that thing in, we may have ourselves a serious problem. :D

Hmmm, Virgo, that would end the party too soon for my tastes.
Wait! Ok, here's a garden hose, I'll attach it to the spout and put that in the tub. Or we can just pass it around.
