So my girlfriend is going to Med school and needed a full physical check up. Her blood work came abck and she is positive for mono. I think it is a false positive. I, nor she, is dead tired and wanting to sleep all the time. Her lymphnodes appear to be swollen, mine however do not.
Anyone else had it?
No, sorry to hear that. I sure hope not. That can last for months.

Both of my friends kids recently had mono. Then the youngest had a relapse. I had it when I was a teenager. It sucks. But really, it's not like you can't function with it. My friends daughter shows up as being a carrier for it, too. Even if she doesn't have it, somehow it shows up that she does. So I think she can pass it to people or something like that.

Supposedly it's transmitable mostly through siliva. Which, we've swapped so I am at high risk. No biggie, I am not too concerned, just not to sure about it. Gonna hit up google later tonight and see what I can find out. She goes back into the doctor tomorrow for some follow up tests to confirm or deny this...
Any helpful pointers on dealing with it cornfed?

It's got a long incubation period, so you can go anywhere up to two months after contracting it before showing any symptoms.

sorry, but everytime I ever hear of mono, I think of Bill & Ted's," I once thought I had mono for a year, but then realized I was just really bored."

Infectious mononucleosis, (also known as the kissing disease, or Pfeiffer's disease, in North America as mono, and more commonly known as glandular fever in other English-speaking countries), is a disease seen most commonly in adolescents and young adults, characterized in teenagers by fever, sore throat, muscle soreness, and fatigue. Mononucleosis typically produces a very mild illness in small children. White patches on the tonsils or in the back of the throat may also be seen, (resembling strep throat). Mononucleosis is usually caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which infects B cells (B-lymphocytes), producing a reactive lymphocytosis and atypical T cells (T-lymphocytes) known as Downey bodies.
Mononucleosis is typically transmitted from asymptomatic individuals through blood or saliva (hence "the kissing disease"), or by sharing a drink, or sharing eating utensils. The disease is far less contagious than is commonly thought. In rare cases a person may have a high resistance to infection.[citation needed] The disease is so-named because the count of mononuclear leukocytes (white blood cells with a one-lobed nucleus) rises significantly. There are two main types of mononuclear leukocytes: monocytes and lymphocytes. They normally account for about 35% of all white blood cells. With infectious mononucleosis, this can rise to 50-70%. Also, the total white blood count may increase to 10000-20000 per cubic millimeter.

I had mono for about Six months, but didn't know until the 2nd to last month. For the first four I did everything normal, except for homework. I would go to practice after school, come home, and be sleeping on the couch by 7 only to wake up the next morning still on the couch at 7am. Whatever homework I did was during breaks and my commute home/to school. So my mom thought I was just running myself ragged with school and practice 5 times a week. Later on I started missing school and such because of other illnesses and got tested for mono. So I just quite the team and got myself onto a better shedual where I wasn't killing my self and I eventually got better.

I had it in 7th grade. I slept a lot, too. I'd fall asleep in class and then they'd send me to the nurses office where I slept some more. My dad took me to a recovering alcoholic doctor he was treating in his rehab program to help the guy gain business. He told my dad that I had some rare leukemia and couldn't have more than about 12 hours to live. Of course my parents totally freaked out and rushed me to Oschner hospital in New Orleans where they said I only had mono. Quacked out junkie!! Aside from sleeping a lot, though, I really kept up with everything else. I made up school work and everything during my waking hours. They were willing to work with me.

They have commercials on TV all the time for it, which I find kind of odd. But they call it the "kissing disease" since it is easily transmitted kissing or sharing drinks.

My ex girlfriend got Gladular Fever (Mono) about 3 times in 5 years. I however appear to immune to it, never stopped me from kissing her. ;)
Her glands were almost permanently up and she was often tired, the tired thing was nothing new though, never known her to not be tired.

This is new to me.
I must've had it back in college...I recall a period when I was often tired and sleepy when before I hated sleeping and was a workaholic. I remember having flu-like symptoms and swollen glands but no sniffles. Never sought treatment, just took echnicea and it went away.

She's going in this morning for more tests. We are meeting up for lunch so I will keep everyone posted on the post-follow up.

I am hoping this is how I am. I have a HIGH tollerant immune system and avoid most of everything. Down side is when I do get sick, I get super super sick and an normally out for the count for 3+ days.
I haven't stopped kissing her either, nothing can stop me form doing that :)

Exactly the same with me, due to me having a Hereditary condition of High Cholesterol the upside is that I also have a better immune system than most. It takes something quite serious to shut me down.

I had mono... coughed up blood, couldn't eat or drink because my throat was swollen shut, slept for about 14 days. Spleen becomes swollen for 6 months to a year, can't do any physical activity during that time or you risk rupturing it causing death. It really made me feel like i was going to die, never been that sick before...
good luck, and if she has it.... stay the hell away!!!!!!!
