Has anyone used http://www.blurb.com/home/1/
the prices seem very reasonable.
i have a customer (a local watercolor artist) that wants me to organize all of her art (digital files) and make her a portfolio. Probably using 3-5 pieces of art per page it will be around 60 pages.
this will be quite the job i just don't know if it is worth all the time.

http://www.lulu.com/products/books/photobook.php

Lulu.com is a known self publishing printer. I've seen a few writers self publish through them with good results. The prices from Blurb seem a bit high in comparison.

How many books? I know of a few other book bindery places.

once i add in the extra for hardcover & pages lulu is a little more expensive but if i knew the product was better that wouldn't bother me.

Here's a review comparing the online POD.
http://www.macworld.com/2006/11/secrets/decdigitalphoto/index.php

I personally haven't seen a photobook in person. I've just heard from a couple other photographers that the print was nice and clear. They did have a pro designer arrange thier book, so I'm sure that it is 300dpi and probably built through the adobe products. The biggest advantage of Lulu is that you can create the layout yourself and not use a predetermined template. Lulu accepts PDF formats.

I don't have any experience with these types of books, but from what I read, I would imagine through Blurb or any of these companies you can select the page-template with one, full-bleed image, and upload your layout/design as that full-bleed image. Know what I mean jellybean?

Memoirs? I can't even remember yesterday...yet alone a lifetime! That's why I need to publish now; so I can read about what I did!

I have, and I actually used it based on Drazan's recommendation (thanks Drazan, you prolly didn't even know!) Overall I was pretty happy with them. I did a 120 page family cookbook (took me two years trying to organize everyone and everything lol!) I had the book printed in both hardbound casewrap and perfectbound versions. The casewrap quality was noticably better (none of my friends or family noticed, but I did), though the softbound version was not bad at all for the price. Overall, the colors of the softbound just weren't as true and vibrant as that of the hardbound.

Printing/shipping time was pretty fast, even at the slowest speed (I also tried both faster and regular), and ftping or uploading through their site and then accessing them was simple enough to do, too.

Hope that helps you Tea . . .

Yes it does tuliptree. Additionally, if you don't mind...were you limited to using just their fonts? I want to do some things with some very specific fonts and design it in InDesign and eventually upload a PDF. Did you follow that process or just use their templates?

I did not use templates. I ftp'd the entire file as a pdf from InDesign.
I was able to use any font, but I did have to change settings with Acrobat so that when I created a pdf it embedded the fonts. I'll try to relocate those steps if you need me to. Its on Lulu's site, but I had to poke around a bit to find them.

Edit: Never mind, here's a tutorial that walks you through the steps if you (or anyone else wanting to do this) need it http://athleticaid.com/yaquinapress/postscript/EmbedFonts.html

(not a rickroll, I promise. Tempted, but I resisted! :) )

LOL! Guess I'd better get writing myself then . . .
