Welcome mitridi_d! I can understand your english just fine! My grandfather is greek. He came over from Cyprus many years ago. I'm not sure if Cyprus is turkish or greek right now. It confuses me!

Oooh man, i was soldier for 14 months in Nicosia, Cyprus.
Off course it isn't a Turkish Island, it is actually a separated Island with two different cultures with no connection with each other, the Cyprian people actually are more affiliated and influenced from Great Britain than Turkish Culture i think.
But i can assure you that the women, the girls living on that Island are just magical, so beautiful, so warm, so loooovely. is it obvious i like brunettes?
Hihi....

It is apparent! I got the dark hair and dark eyes from my dad, but thats about it! He's very greek looking with olive skin and dark hair, as was my grandpa.

Welcome! What do you eat in Athens?

Mmmmm...let me think..as i said in another topic, we eat many many times, for me just once or twice a week, souvlaki (Souvlaki is a popular Greek fast food consisting of small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables grilled on a skewer. It may be served on the skewer for eating out of hand, in a pita sandwich with garnishes and sauces, or on a dinner plate, often with french fries or pilaf. The meat is traditionally pork in Greece and Cyprus, or in modern times increasingly chicken.).
So, as an original Greek man, my table has always feta cheese, a salty white cheese with an excellent taste, has a lot of vegetables and legumes. I think you have heard about Mediterranenan nutrition. That's in small sentenses, to get an idea about greek food. If you haven't yet visited Greece, you should take this under serious consideration.
Have a nice day everyone
Thank you
Dimitris

You have olives too don't you?
I love feta, but only cow's feta. I find goat feta much too....goaty.

Obviously the "greek" food in USA has no relation with what that really is and tastes. Once i was in Germany, i ate a souvlaki from a greek tavern, and it was simply uninterested, no tradition, it was mixed up with the local german taste habits. Although here in Greece you can find everywhere american food, like steaks in friday's, burger in MacDonalds, but now you are going to tell me ,that this americanized food isn't the same as in the States.
It is normal i think.

I'm not sure how other places get it wrong but there is nothing like a Yorkshire Pudding from the UK.

I once saw New Zealand beef mince pies in Hong Kong. They looked so horrible I refused to try one.
