Good afternoon everyone! We have a salesman here who has a powerbook G4. He was having some problems with the finder in OS9. He works in 9 not 10. I trashed the finder pref and rebuilt the desktop and everything worked fine. He wanted to print something to the laserprinter so I told'em to shut the computer down and handed him the plug for our network. He plugged it in and booted up the laptop and this abstract, multicolored looking thing pops up on his screen. It's something very wrong, all the windows and icons both OS9 and 10 show up behind this blob never in front. We've restarted in both OS and changed the background screen. I've never seen this happen before. Anyone got a clue? Thanks

I think I might know what it is, but can you post a quick screen shot of it?

This blob looks like a abstract multicolor blob artifact. Not a graphic but a giant glitch with the background splash and icons poking out between the glitch. It happened suddenly when booting up with the network cord plugged in the back of the laptop. I'm pretty sure it's a monitor issue and it might be fried! If you can see a window or icon showing in between the glitch, you can sellect and move them but not the blob.

Hmmm. It does sound like a hardware problem. You may be right that the display may be toast.

sounds like that spot on the screen got smushed or something.

Is it still there when you unplug the network cord? <You sure it was a network cord and not a phone cord?>

Can you deguass a laptop screen?

You can't deguass any LCD screens. LCD monitors don't have a degauss option, becauase they filled with liquid, and not a magnetic coil and picture tube. Degaussing is for CRT monitors/tv sets (havent seen a laptop with a CRT monitor.)

Pulled the plug as soon as it happened. It was the network cord. It's the same cord my coworker uses for his laptop to link up with the network.
