It was two weeks ago Friday when I went to the interview (the one an hour and a half away) so I waited until yesterday to contact him. He said to give him a week for other interviews and then I would know something the following week.

In the email I got in return, it said the company server was down and they should have let me know earlier in the week that another candidate was chosen.

Don't you just love that? I busted my ass to get to an interview within 24 hours and they couldn't be bothered to follow through. I shoulda called on Monday but I specifically asked when and he said middle of the week.

Ah well, I guess it wasn't meant for me to drive that much but it's hard not to panic with the mortgage is due and there's not another graphics job open within 50 miles!

Talked to the art teacher yesterday, $50 for sub a day but she's never off more than once or twice a year so I'm not paying $75 to get fingerprinted and waiting two months to get verified just to teach some snot-nosed kids how to throw paint around. "Art on a Cart" in our schools means not a whole lot of teaching going on there.

I shall quit griping now and get on with my Friday chores. Thanks for the wishes though, they helped me hope a little bit.

chin up calli, it was hard for me too, you can't let the interviews that fall through get to you. Just move right on to the next one. Sometimes you can ask the employers if they work with any other companies in the area. Contact them and look for openings in those places. Don't be afraid to think outside the box, it can get you noticed. Creativity in business is doesn't just happen in your portfolio, its how you can conduct yourself and be valuable and productive as a worker.

chin up, Calligirl. Unfortunately, this happens to most of us. There's often a lot of rejection before finding the perfect fit. Don't let it get you down.

Sorry Calligirl. That bums. Something will happen for you. Perhaps there's something better waiting for you. Job hunting is like a full time job in itself. It can be frustrating and can play a real number on your opinion of yourself. Try to remember this and not let it get the best of you.

When one door closes another opens, sometimes even a window opens!!!!
And then someone else slams it in your face or breaks your fingers.

I should work for those demotivator people.

Can you ask why they were chosen over you? See if there's anything else you can do or learn from the experience somehow?

Lotsa' luck!

I've spent so much time filling out apps and hunting for positions I haven't devoted any productive time to really fleshing out my portfolio so I've been in a catch 22. I think I'm just going to take a week and just get all these projects done for some upcoming shows and let the job market simmer. Maybe my creative flow will cause some energy to filter over into the employment line.

Don't you get 90 days before the mortgage company forecloses? ;)

That's lame, Calli, but keep your chin up, something good will happen. As far as the 90 days thing, I think so, but it depends on who owns your mortgage. Its been my experience that the job market ebbs and flows and that it seems to me the times of year when I see the most job postings are spring and fall...so hold out a bit longer...Good luck!

I was in a dire position as well before I got my current job. I had to decide if I was going to renew my lease in Erie or move back to Pittsburgh and I had a week or two left to decide. I was trying to get a job in Erie, but I was still working in Pittsburgh, while my girlfriend was living in our place in Erie. Confused yet? yeah so was I. (Oh and just for reference Erie and Pittsburgh are a bit over 100 miles away from each other) I was living at my parents in Pittsburgh and living in Erie on the weekends.

So long story short I got an offer therefore making my living arrangement choice simple. This is all after a year of commuting and unsuccessful interviews.

So all I can say is hang in there. Something will happen eventually. All you can do is put yourself in the right position. The rest is out of your hands. Unless you want to start your own business.

That's a whole other story...

Good luck!

Stick with it...that job will come...maybe not the perfect one (NO job is "perfect")...but something gainful...Right now the job market is tight, and it's an employer's market...and they love to SIT on the jobs, looking for the perfect, underpaid candidate...

...And yes...90 days is usually the non-payment period allowed before the mortgage lender starts foreclosure proccedings...
