Gotta a client who wants me to edit their PC created quark file. (oy)
They have designed it themselves to save money....I cannot even open the file (didn't think I would). I know Quark CAN open these files as long as they are on same version....I have yet to find out.

Years since I have had to deal with this. Already I have told them I need a MAC file with MAC fonts (and I know they just got a new MAC). With the amount of issues etc, I would rather not have to deal with it.

They haven't even sent me a collected file. No fonts etc. And a bunch of jpegs I haven't even looked at yet. (probably all RGB)

One idea (although I have not suggested it yet) is to save quark file as a PDF and I'll put in Indesign.

What are your peoples thoughts on how I would proceed (although I have ping ponged this issue right back to them). More than likely I will not have to deal with this, but wanted feedback anyhow.

Thanks in advance.

What version of Quark do you and they have? If their version is newer than yours there may be a problem. If not and you are still having a problem opening the file add ".qxd" at the end of the file name and that should do it. As far as fonts tell them to supply them cause depending on the fonts they may work on your machine also you may have the mac version anyway.

They are on 7 I'm on 6.5.

Just took her through how to collect, make PDFs etc (turns out it WAS created on their new mac...YAY).

Question: How do you downsave to 6.5 in Quark 7. Not an option in save as dialogue box.

Ok I googled it and found the answer. (export as project)

thanks for the help.

You need to tell them to "export- layouts as projects" it is in this dialog box that will give the options to save 7 down to 6 which 6.5 will open. If there is a problem after that make sure .qxd is at the tail of the name.

Sorry for the delay!:)
