Am I the only one to also call it "smart bound" or is that just a colloquialism? I was just getting a quote for something involving it and the printer had no idea what I meant.

We used to call them perfect bound at the print shop where I worked, but in our case it was a severe misnomer. Ours were more like "adequately bound" than anything, at least until they got rid of the slacker in the bindery and hired somebody who knew what they were doing. :D

Hehehehe. Our perfect binder operator only did an adequate job also.

I've never had to run one before, but isn't the blade on the binder only supposed to rough the spine up so the glue holds? Our operator had it cutting an 8th inch off. A perfect cut...

Yes, it is ther to rough it up.... Then your pages don't fall out when you open the book ALL the way. LOL!!!

We call it perfect bound no matter what the quality of the finished product.
